Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, South Kashmir range, Vijay Kumar said that two militants of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) attacked the residence of Yawar Masoodi at around 2:20 pm. Masoodi, who was inside the premises, remained unharmed but his Police guards, Vinod Kumar and Abdul Hamid were killed. Al-Shohada brigade in a statement issued to a local news agency claimed responsibility for the attack.

A LeT militant, identified as Omar Hafiz alias Hafizul Omar, a Pakistani national, was killed while at least three others slipped out of security cordon in the Lolab Forest area of Kupwara District. One AK-47 rifle, Five Magazines 60 rounds, four Matrix, two cell phones, one GPS and one UBGL grenade were recovered from the encounter site.

Hassanporabagh area / Kulgam District

The follower Rafiq Ahmed Mir of Indian Reserve Police IRP 12th battalion was shot dead by LeT militants in Hassanporabagh area of Kulgam District. SP, Kulgam, and Mohammad Shafi Mir said the militants barged into Mir's house at Hassanporabagh last night and fired upon him from a point blank range killing him on the spot. He said that the militants managed to escape after carrying out the attack.

Sopore / Baramulla District

Eight LeT militants were arrested by the SFs in North Kashmir. Eight UBGL, five Chinese grenades and 100 AK-47 rounds have been seized from them. Police in Sopore (in Baramulla District), with the help of 30 Rashtriya Rifles, have busted a recruitment module of LeT. Three of them Rayees Ahmad Bhat, Sajad Ahmad Bhat and Shabir Ahmad Kumar are residents of Harwan, Sopore. While remaining five, Lateef Ahmad Gujar, Zubair Ahmad Gujar, Mohammad Qasim Gujar, Mohammad Iqbal Gujar and Hakim Din Gujar are residents of Gujarpatti Zaloora village.

A militant module was neutralized by J&K Police by arresting its two members from Sopore town of Baramulla District. According to SP Abdul Qayoom the module was set up by Pakistan-based militant outfit LeT and used to provide logistics to the extremists in Sopore town.

Two persons, including a JCO of Army and a militant, were killed in an ongoing fierce gun battle between SFs and militants in Waderbala forests near Petta Village in Handwara area of Kupwara District.

SFs killed two more LeT militants, including one 'commander', in the Handwara forest of Kupwara District. The slain militants were foreigners from whose possession three AK-47 rifles, AK magazines, one UBGL, one matrix sheet, one compass, one GPS and warlike stores were recovered.

J&K Police neutralized a module of LeT which was tasked to disrupt upcoming State Assembly elections in Srinagar city and are looking for more such modules operating in the city. Police arrested three suspects Mohammad Ganzafar Hajam, Sajad Ahmad Dar and Javid Rasool Bhat in Srinagar over the last one week.

Srinagar Police busted a LeT sleeper cell in Srinagar that was planning to carry out subversive activities in Srinagar city. Two LeT militants identified as Mohammad Irfan Haroon and Shakeel Ahmad Bhat were arrested and three AK-47 rifles, 14 pistols and 2 wireless sets were recovered from them.

Death toll rises to 12 after one civilian and one militant killed at village Kathaar in Arnia sector of Jammu District. After completing the operation, Army, BSF and Police sanitized village Kathaar and all surrounding areas of Arnia sector before allowing the people into their houses. Bodies of all four slain militants, who were part of suicide squad of LeT outfit were recovered from the village. Army recovered four AK-47 rifles, one pistol, one IED, one disposal rocket launcher, two fired disposable rocket launcher cases, three radio sets, hand grenades and a large quantity of AK ammunition.

Police killed a top LeT commander and his associate in an encounter in Ahmad Nagar area of Srinagar city. Police identified LeT commander as Qari Asrar District commander of LeT. Police recovered two AK rifles and seven magazines and hand grenades from the encounter site.

A LeT militant was killed in a fierce encounter in the frontier District of Kupwara. One Army jawan Kuldeep Singh of 4 Para was injured during the encounter. One AK rifle, 3 magazines, one Radio Set and some documents were recovered from the encounter site.
