April 10 Imphal West

Commando unit of Imphal West District Police arrested a UKLF cadre, identified as Limminal Mate alias Lalpu while conducting frisking and checking in Imphal city area in front of BSNL Office, Babupara along NH-2 in Imphal West District. Investigation revealed that he along with his associates of UKLF abducted a truck driver from Kotlen area along Imphal-Jiribam road and subsequently extorted INR 1.1 million recently.

UKLF stated its opposition to setting up of KNLF camp at Sembol village in Chandel District saying it would disturb the peace and tranquillity of the area while also urging the Govt to withdraw the same for the larger interest of the public. JM Thadou, 'information and publicity secretary' of UKLF, stated Semol area is the operational area of UKLF and the presence of an unfriendly group means confrontation between the two. UKLF also urged the Government to conduct reverification of cadres of the KNLF to ascertain whether all cadres who surrendered on September 9, 2013, were still in the ranks of KNLF.

Assistant Marketing Officer in Manipur Hills and Backward Development Co-operation Bank identified as Tongbram Ibomcha Alias Ibungomacha who was abducted on August 29 by UKLF from Phutap area of Churachandpur District, and kept at UKLF designated camp, managed to escape from the camp. He was kept in the camp for a ransom demand of INR 1.4 million.

Refuting the media report of a 'kidnapped' bank employee escaping from the custody of UKLF, an individual identified as Letmang Haokip stated that the bank employee identified as Tongbram Ibomcha alias Ibungomacha was not kidnapped, but was detained by him for duping him a sum of INR 200,000 on false promise of providing a bank loan of INR 800,000.
