Officials on September 14 stated that 10,000 Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) personnel deployed in Assam before the publication of the final National Register of Citizens (NRC) has been withdrawn, reports Indian Express. A Union Ministry of Home Affairs (UMHA) official said a decision was taken on August 19 to deploy 218 companies of paramilitary forces in Assam for maintenance of law and order situation ahead of the publication of the final NRC. As peace continues to prevail in Assam, a review was carried out on the situation in the state. It was decided to withdraw 100 companies of CAPF’s with immediate effect. Among the 100 companies of the CAPF’s withdrawn, 50 belong to the Border Security Force (BSF), 10 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), 16 Indo-Tibetan Police Force (ITBP) and 24 to Shastra Seema Bal (SSB).
