At least 25 Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres, including four women, surrendered before Security Forces (SFs) at Kuakonda Police Station in Dantewada District of Chhattisgarh on July 9, reports Outlook. Of the 25 cadres, Budhram Tamo (48) - head of Dandakaranya Adivasi Kisan Mazdoor Sangthan (DAKMS - a frontal wing of Maoists), Manjhi Barse (35) - head of the ‘Jan Militia’ group and woman cadre Deve Sodhi - head of Krantikari Mahila Adivasi Sangthan (KAMS- another offshoot of Maoists) were carrying cash rewards of INR 100,000 each on their heads. Whereas the rest of them were lower-rung members, mostly belonging to DAKMS, KAMS and ‘Jan Militia’ groups, the Superintendent of Police (SP), Abhishek Pallava said adding that “In the last 10 days, 53 Maoists have surrendered before the Police under this campaign called ‘Lon Varratu’ (a local Gondi dialect term which means ‘return to your village’). We are expecting more in the coming days.”
