On August 1, a Taliban intelligence official, identified as Qari Amanullah was killed and his associate was injured in the National Resistance Front's (NRF) attack in Shakoor Khel Village in the Mullah Habib Akhund Bridge area of Sayd Khel District in Parwan Province, reports the National Resistance Front on X.
Rasoul Mousavi, an aide to Iran's Foreign Ministry, described managing relations with Taliban asthe most complex diplomatic task, reports Afghanistan International on August 2. He said that managing relations with Taliban is "the most difficult and complex type of political management in diplomatic relations.”
The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) reported that nearly eight million Afghan citizens have left or fled their homeland since the United States (US) signed a peace agreement with Taliban in Doha (Qatar) on February 29, 2020, reports Afghanistan International on August 2. According to the IOM, approximately one million Afghans have sought asylum in European countries, while 85% have migrated to neighbouring countries. The IOM also found that 70% of Afghans moving to Iran did so primarily due to a lack of job opportunities. Additionally, the report noted that nearly one million Afghans returned from Iran to their homeland in 2023, with 70% of them lacking residency documents.
In a late evening shoot out at about 8pm on August 2, unidentified gunmen coming in a Maruti Gypsy opened fire at a team of Kuki National Front – Military Council (KNF-MC) cadres, including its ‘commander’ German alias Thangzalam Haokip, while they were at Molnom Endurance Library in Churachandpur town (Churachandpur District) of Manipur, reports The Sangai Express. German managed to escape unhurt but a cadre of the KNF-MC, identified as Stonic of Tuibong (28), sustained a bullet injury.
Tripura Police arrested seven Bangladeshi nationals while intercepting a bus at Panisagar checkpoint in North Tripura District in Tripura on August 2, reports Northeast Now. Police’s interrogation revealed that they were Bangladeshi citizens in possession of fake Aadhaar and Permanent Account Number (PAN). The arrested suspects, including the transgender individuals, were enroute to Mumbai (Maharashtra) via Guwahati (Assam) and are believed to have crossed the border of Akhaura in Brahmanbaria District in Bangladesh to reach India.
Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested eight Bangladeshi nationals and two Indian human traffickers at Agartala Railway Station in West Tripura District in Tripura on August 2, reports Northeast Now. The apprehended Bangladeshi nationals were identified as Sahadad Hossein, Trisha Akhtar, Safla Akhtar, Raju Ahmed, Shah Alam, Sukadri Sheikh, Mohammad Biplab, and Karim Sheikh. The Indian smugglers are Ratan Pal and Shukla Sarkar from Sonamura in Sepahijala District. The arrested Bangladeshis were headed to Kolkata (West Bengal) and Chennai (Tamil Nadu).
On August 2, Police arrested two top ranking Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres in a joint operation conducted by Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and Police under the jurisdiction of Mali Police Station in Aurangabad District of Bihar, reports organiser.org. Acting on input about presence of notorious Maoist cadres in Belakheda village under the Mali Police Station limits, a special joint team of personnel of SSB and Police, raided the house of one Lutan Singh, a resident of Belakheda and arrested two top ranking Maoists, identified as Vijay Paswan (42), a resident of Belakheda and Rajendra Singh (57), a resident of Sori village. The joint team also seized two country-made pistols along with live cartridges from the possession of the accused. One of the arrested accused Rajendra Singh is a ‘sub-zonal commander’ of the banned outfit, and a reward of INR 300,000 has already been announced on him by the Bihar government, informed Aurangabad Superintendent of Police (SP), Swapna G Meshram.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a charge sheet against two accused persons in case RC-04/2024/NIA/RPR related to the arrest of two Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres, identified as Vinod Awalam and Ashu Korsa, of the Kuyemari area committee of the CPI-Maoist while carrying arms and explosives to attack the Security Forces (SFs), reports latestly.com on August 3. The duos were arrested along with weapons and other incriminating material from Mujalgondi village in Kanker District of Chhattisgarh. The chargesheet was filed before the Special Court, Jagdalpur, under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Arms Act, the Explosives Substances Act, and the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), as stated by the NIA. The two chargesheeted accused persons were part of the protection and supply team of senior leaders of the CPI-Maoist and were planning to carry out terrorist attacks on SFs in connivance with other cadres of the CPI-Maoist.
On August 2, National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed a chargesheet against two accused identified as, Mansoor Pasha and Riyaz H.Y., for their role in harbouring Mustafa Paichar, the master trainer of Popular Front of India (PFI) in Karnataka and the chief conspirator in the Praveen Nettaru murder case, reports NIA. Earlier, NIA arrested Mansoor Pasha along with Mustafa Paichar on May 10, 2024, from Sakleshpura in Hassan District of Karnataka and Riyaz H.Y. from Mumbai International Airport in Maharashtra on June 3, 2024. They are charged with sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
Indian Navy Ship (INS) Tabar arrived at St. Petersburg, Russia on July 25 and participated in 328th Russian Navy Day, and on departure from St. Petersburg, Russia successfully conducted Maritime Partnership Exercise (MPX) with the Russian Navy Ship Soobrazitelny on July 30 which marks a significant milestone in the maritime cooperation between India and Russia, reinforcing the commitment of both nations to maintain peace, stability and security in the region, reports pib.gov.in. The MPX involved a series of complex naval manoeuvers, including communication drills, Search & Rescue tactics and Replenishment at Sea serials. Ships from both navies demonstrated high levels of professionalism and interoperability.
As many as 10,675 illegal immigrants were detected in the State during the last five years, Manipur Chief Minister (CM) N Biren Singh during the sixth session of 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly on August 2, reports Imphal Free Press. The illegal immigrants are from Myanmar, Bangladesh, Norway, China and Nepal, said N Biren Singh, responding to a query moved by Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Surjakumar Okram. Of the total 10,675 illegal immigrants, 85 were deported in the last five years, he said, adding that 143 illegal immigrants are detained in detention centres at present. A sum of INR 85,55,761 has been incurred as expenditures in maintenance of the detainees in the detention centres, he said. In District wise, illegal immigrants are distributed at Imphal West-11, Imphal East-1, Bishnupur-1, Thoubal-1, Kakching-6, Churachandpur-150, Chandel-1895, Tengnoupal-2406, Ukhrul-3, Kangpokpi-2 and Kamjong- 6199, CM N Biren Singh said.
On August 2, Dirgha Bahadur Sodari, Chief Minister of Sudurpaschim Province, resigned from his position before a scheduled vote of confidence, which he was unlikely to win, reports Khabarhub. The 53-member assembly includes 18 from the Nepali Congress, 11 from the Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML), 11 from the Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist Centre (including the Speaker), seven from the Nagarik Unmukti Party, four from the Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Socialist (CPN-US), one from Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), and one independent lawmaker. Following an agreement between CPN-UML and Nepali Congress, Nepali Congress now leads the provincial government.
Two Policemen were killed while two other Policemen sustained injuries when terrorists attacked a convoy carrying three local court judges near Bhugwal on the Dera Ismail Khan Road in Tank District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on August 2, reports Dawn. Police said that the three judges, including acting District and sessions judge of Tank District, Malik Hasnain, acting District and sessions judge of South Waziristan District, Malik Asghar, and senior civil judge of South Waziristan District, Tahira Zainab, were going in a convoy to Dera Ismail Khan when terrorists attacked them. The judges had been reached to safety in an armoured personnel carrier. The deceased Policemen were identified as Constable Abdullah and Constable Samad. The vehicle of the Police which was taken away by terrorists was torched and burnt, adds The Khorasan Diary.
Pakistan recorded 2,075 incidents of terrorism over the past 16 months, resulting in 1,215 deaths and 2,600 injuries, The Express Tribune reported on August 2 quoting the figures provided by the Federal Ministry of Interior. The Ministry presented these details to the National Assembly (NA), revealing that in 2023 alone, 930 people were killed and 2,000 were injured in terrorist attacks. In just the first four months of the current year, 285 individuals lost their lives, and 600 were injured. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) bore the brunt of most of the violence, with 1,140 incidents leading to 756 deaths and 1,786 injuries. Balochistan reported 626 incidents, resulting in 423 fatalities and 734 injuries. Sindh experienced 19 terrorist incidents, with 14 people killed and 36 injured over the 16 month period. Meanwhile, Punjab witnessed eight attacks, causing 12 deaths and 11 injuries. On the other hand Gilgit-Baltistan reported three incidents, resulting in nine fatalities and 26 injuries. The Ministry further informed the NA that, in response to the escalating threat, Security Forces (SFs) conducted 2,208 intelligence-based operations in the first quarter of this year. These efforts resulted in the elimination of 89 terrorists and the arrest of 328 individuals.
