National Resistance Front (NRF) stated on X that two Taliban intelligence force officials, identified as Qari Khalid Omar, and Hafiz Badruddin, a member of the second Taleghan District were killed and four others were injured in NRF’s targeted attack inin the area of Ghazi Road in 2nd Police District (PD) in Taloqan District of Takhar province on August 4. Additionally, two Taliban vehicles were destroyed.

District Police Commandos arrested two cadres of Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) on charges of alleged involvement in extortion from people and Government employees of Kakching, Hiyanglam and Sekmaijing areas from Keirak Khongnang Makhong near Nature Cure under Kakching Police Station (Kakching District) in Manipur on August 5, reports The Sangai Express. A Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) banner surfaced in agriculture fields at Peddarapuram village in Konijerla Mandal (administrative sub division) in Khammam District of Telangana on August 5, reports Telangana Today. Manipur Chief Minister (CM) N Biren Singh on August 5 informed on the floor of Legislative Assembly that a total of 18,371 families have been affected by the ongoing violence that began on May 3, 2023 and that 14,857 families were residing in relief camps and temporary shelters, reports Imphal Free Press. CM Biren was responding to a query moved by MLA Surjakumar Okram as an unstarred question on August 5 during the sixth session of 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly. The CM also informed that the number of male IDPs are 18,843, female at 21,245, male children at 12,977 and female children at 13,763. CM Biren said that the amount of funds released by the Government of India for IDPs till date is INR 225.54 crore and the amount spent so far, including the state’s own contribution, is INR 377.07 crore. Financial assistance of INR 1000 per person for clothing and personal belongings has been given four times to IDPs, he added. In another query moved by MLA K Ranjit regarding compensation of houses burnt down in the ongoing violence, the CM said that the State cabinet has decided to give INR one lakh relief to each family whose houses were burnt down due to ongoing violence.

At least two people were killed in a targeted attack by unidentified assailants who fired from a black-tinted car in the Lundi Dog area in Birmal tehsil (revenue unit) of South Waziristan District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on August 5, reports The Khorasan Diary. District Police said that unidentified assailants fired from a black-tinted car, killing two motorcycle riders. One of the victims was a teacher.
Marwat Qaumi Jirga (MQJ) on August 4 asked Security Forces (SFs) to flush out militants from the District or give a free hand to Police to launch an offensive against them, reports Dawn. Local elders and a large number of people from across the District participated the jirga which met at Children Park in Lakki city. Former Federal Minister Anwar Saifullah Khan, MQJ head Haji Mohammad Aslam Khan, former Federal secretary Akhtar Munir Marwat, former Member of National Assembly (MNA) Naseer Mohammad Khan, Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) Johar Mohammad, Ghaznikhel tehsil council chairman Zeeshan Mohammad Khan, Lakki tehsil council chairman Shafqatullah Khan, Naurang tehsil council chairman Haji Azizullah Khan, former tehsil nazims Faridullah Khan and Haji Hidayatullah Khan, Malik Ali Sarwar and Iqbal Hussain attended the jirga. “People pay taxes to the government hence it is the prime responsibility of government and its institutions including security forces and other law enforcement agencies to restore peace and ensure provision of security to people in the district,” said Akhtar Munir Marwat. He said that elders could not leave their people on the mercy of militants. “A handful of militants cannot be allowed to occupy the district with a population of nearly one million,” he added.

The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) cadres set fire to a vehicle belonging to a military construction company in Zamuran area of Kech District in Balochistan on August 3, reports The Balochistan Post. This incident occurred after a contractor, involved in construction and fencing projects along the Goldsmith Line, attempted to flee, leaving his vehicle behind. While claiming responsibility of the attack, BLA ‘spokesperson’ Jeeyand Baloch described these projects as supporting “occupying forces.”
Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General (DG) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry on August 5 said that not enough was being done against “digital terrorism” under the law, allowing fake news and propaganda to spread in the country, reports Dawn. Addressing a press conference in Rawalpindi, the ISPR DG said that the first line of defence against “digital terrorism” was the country’s law. “It is the country’s law that has to control and curb digital terrorism [but] unfortunately, you can see that lies, propaganda — particularly on social media — fake news and doctored images continue to spread while confusion is created in the public’s mind,” he said. “But the law is not taking its course against [digital terrorism] the way it should”, he added.
The National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) decided on August 5 to launch joint intelligence-based operations (IBOs) against terrorist organisations operating in Pakistan, reports ARY News. In a statement, a spokesperson said the decision was taken during NACTA’s monthly counter-terrorism intelligence conference. The conference was attended by representatives from Police, law enforcement agencies, and intelligence agencies. The meeting reviewed the current security situation and potential threats. NACTA spokesperson said that the conference focused on sharing actionable intelligence among stakeholders to combat terrorism. The participants were determined to root out terrorism through joint efforts.
