Two prominent election monitor and civil society groups, Centre for Monitoring Election Violence (CMEV) and Centre for Policy Alternatives (CPA) have expressed concern over the anomalises in the affidavit submitted by Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa for his candidacy in the Presidential election, reports Daily News. The CPA communique stated that two distinct affidavits claiming loss of nationality were produced in support of Rajapaksa’s candidacy by Rajapaksa’s Counsel and President’s Counsel Ali Sabry. Further, both the civic action groups authorities to immediately investigate the legality of these affidavits and validate the citizenship of Gotabaya according to Articles 91 and 92 of the Constitution.
