District and Sessions Court of Dhaka city on April 8 issued death warrant for Captain Abdul Majed, convicted killer of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, reports The Daily Star. On November 19, 2009, the Supreme Court upheld a High Court verdict, confirming capital punishment of 12 people, including Majed, for killing the Father of the Nation and most of his family members on August 15, 1975. The death sentence will be executed between 21 and 28 days of its issuance. Majed, however, filed a mercy petition to the President, seeking clemency.
