Former State Minister Vijayakala Maheswaran has been arrested by the Organized Crime Prevention Division (OCPD) of Police on October 8 (today) for calling reorganization of the outlawed terrorist group Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in order to curb the rising crime in the North, reports Colombo Page. Speaking an event at the Veerasingham Hall in Jaffna on July 2, Maheswaran has called for the reorganization of LTTE in order to curb the rising crime in the North. The UNP Jaffna District parliamentarian resigned from her post of State Minister of Child Affairs on July 5 due to the criticism generated by her statement. The Attorney General advised the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara to take legal action under the Penal Code against Maheswaran over her controversial statement on the LTTE.
