Three paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were killed and seven others injured along with a physically-challenged boy was killed in Handwara area in Kupwara District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) as militants attacked their patrol party on May 4, reports Daily Excelsior. Militants attacked a patrol party of 92 battalion CRPF party at Wangam in Handwara area in Kupwara District in which two CRPF troopers were killed on the spot while several others suffered injuries and later one among them succumbed to the injuries. During search Police found body of a boy identified as Hazmi Shafi Bhat, 14, son of Mohammad Shafi Bhat, a student of 7th standard, of Khipora village, around 400 metres from the encounter site. Sources said that three militants carried out the attack on the CRPF patrol party and they decamped with two weapons of the killed personnel.
Meanwhile, a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) trooper was injured in a grenade attack on a Security Forces’ (SFs) camp at Wagoora in Budgam District of J&K on May 4, reports Daily Excelsior. Militants hurled a grenade at the CISF camp guarding a power installation at Wagoora in Budgam.
Separately, SFs arrested a militant associate and recovered ammunition from his possession in Baramulla District of J&K on May 4, reports Daily Excelsior. Police said that on a specific input, a joint team of 46 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) 53 Battalion CRPF and Special Operation Group (SOG) laid a Naka (barricade) near Sheeri Police Station limits in Baramulla District, and one militant associate was arrested with hundred rounds of AK 47 and one grenade. The arrested militant was identified as Umer Mushtaq Khan from Sopore, presently resident of Srinagar, and brother of former militant Kaleemullah, who was killed in an encounter with SFs few years back.
