Maldives’ opposition alliance candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on July 26 has filed his candidature and officially entered the race as one of the candidates for upcoming Presidential election scheduled in September 2018, reports Avas. The sudden withdrawal of former President Mohamed Nasheed from the Presidential elections lead to the union of divided opposition parties—Jumhoory Party (JP) led by Gasim Ibrahim, and Adhaalath Party (AP) led by Sheikh Imran Abdulla. Both parties [JP and AP] agreed on nominating a single opposition candidate for the upcoming elections and came out in support of Solih as the opposition alliance candidate for the elections.
