Maldives’ ruling party—Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) on October 10 has filed a legal challenge to the results of the September 2018 Presidential election in which Abdulla Yameen was defeated by the Opposition coalition’s Presidential candidate—Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, reports Avas. The ruling party (PPM) has claimed that the Election Commission (EC) had ‘rigged’ the elections and has been carrying out nightly protests demanding the commission to answer recent allegations. "We reviewed the numerous complaints filed by President Yameen's supporters before deciding to file this legal challenge. Therefore, President Yameen has decided that the challenge must be filed for the rights of his supporters," said President Yameen's lead lawyer Mohamed Saleem.
