A Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre, identified as Rakesh Marandi was arrested following an exchange of fire with Security Forces (SFs) at Kulmungri forest in Giridih District of Jharkhand on June 2, reports The Telegraph. The Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Navin Kumar Singh said, “The Police and Paramilitary Forces were carrying out search operations in the area after a tip-off about a squad of 20-25 armed Maoistsholding a meeting in the said forest. When SFs reached the place, the Maoists opened fire on them. In retaliation, the combing team returned fire. The Maoists soon dispersed and ran towards the forest. During the pursuit, Marandi was arrested by the combing team officers.” The SDPO also said Marandi, a resident of Rajadumar village under Bhelwaghati Police Station limits in Giridih District was involved in several cases related to Maoist activities in and around Giridih and Dhanbad Districts. The SFs recovered several important documents from his possession.
