A Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) couple surrendered to the Police in the presence of Warangal City Police Commissioner V. Ravinder in Hanamkonda in Warangal District of Telangana on March 21, reports The Hindu. Gandrakoti Mallesham alias Mallaiah alias Kiran (35), native of Intikanne village under Kesamudram Mandal (administrative sub-division) and his wife Chintha Srilatha alias Hyma (34), native of Rampur village under Kothaguda Mandal in Mahabubabad District. Mallesham who held the posts of ‘divisional committee member, DCM’ and in charge of the ‘central regional bureau, CRB’ communication had joined the Maoists in 2003 inspired by the then Narsampet Dalam (armed squad) secretary Bharathakka. Mallesham worked as a medical practitioner as well as teacher in the party for some time. He sustained severe injuries in Oddugudem encounter in 2004 and had been away from the party until he rejoined the outfit in 2005, while, Srilatha who held the post of the DCM of the Dandakaranya Special Zone Committee (DKSZC) joined the Maoists in 2004. While Mallesham is carrying a reward of INR 400,000 on his head, reward on Srilatha is INR 100,000.
