A Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre, whose identity is yet to be ascertained, was killed in an encounter with the Police in a forest near Sirseti village under Kerlapal Police Station limits in Sukma District of Chhattisgarh on May 11, reports The Print. Acting on specific inputs about the presence of a large number of Naxalites [Left Wing Extremists, LWEs] in hilly areas of Simel and Gogunda villages, teams of the District Reserve Guard (DRG), the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and the Special Task Force (STF) launched the operation, Sukma Superintendent of Police (SP) Sunil Sharma said. When one of the patrolling teams of the DRG was returning, armed Maoists opened fire on security personnel, triggering the gun battle, Sharma said. After the guns fell silent, the body of a Maoist, along with arms, ammunition, and Maoist-related materials, were recovered from the spot, the official said.
