A Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre was lynched by local residentswhile another Maoist was injured atJanturai village in Malkangiri District of Odisha on January 25, reports The Times of India. The slain Maoist was identified as Ganga Madhi, a resident of the said District. He was carrying a cash reward of INR 100,000 on his head.The injured Maoist had been identified as Jipro Hatrika, a resident of Koraput District and was carrying a reward of INR 400,000 on his head. As per the Police Officials, on the night of the incident, a group of Maoists had come to the village and asked the residents to observe Republic Day as a ‘black day’. The villagers,however, opposed the Maoist diktat and instead chased the group out of the village.The Maoists then opened blank fire to disperse the villagers, but the latter retaliated with bows and arrows besides resorting to stone-pelting leading to the killing of one of the Maoistsand injuries to another, the Official added.
