Nine petitions challenging certain clauses of the 22nd Amendment to the Constitutions presented in parliament last week were filed in the Supreme Court on August 18, reports Colombo page. The Attorney General has been named as the respondent in the petitions filed by nine citizens including lawyer Nagananda Kodithuvakku and Gunadasa Amarasekara. Petitioners say certain clauses of the 22nd Constitutional Amendment are not in accordance with the Constitution, and request the Supreme Court to order a two-third majority of the Parliament or a referendum to pass those clauses.
