On June 14, National Socialist Council of Nagaland -Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM) assertively reacting to Karbi Students’ Association’s (KSA) response stated that the KSA is blinded by ‘KAATC syndrome’, reports Northeast Now. In its statement, NSCN-IM asserted that the proposed KAATC ignored the legitimate rights of the Rengma Nagas, the true sons of the soil in Karbi Anglong. It further added, KSA should thoroughly follow the authentic historical references.
Earlier, nine non-tribal organizations from the undivided Karbi Anglong district of Assam have emailed a memorandum on June 12, to President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Minister of Home Affairs (MHA) Amit Shah to ‘ensure the rights of their people’ with the signing of the proposed peace deal with six militant outfits from the region, The Telegraph. The signatories included All Adivasi Students’ Association of Assam (AASAA), Bokajan District Demand Committee, Karbi Anglong Adivasi Youth and Students’ Council, Assam Gorkha Sanmilan, East Karbi Anglong Hindi Bhashi Sanstha, All Assam Minorities Students’ Union (AAMSU), Assam Gorkha Autonomous Council Demand Committee, Adivasi Ekta Manch and two units of the All-Assam Gorkha Students’ Union. In the memorandum, the nine organizations stated that the rights of non-tribals including the land rights and the voting rights should not be diluted.
