The Chhattisgarh Police on April 24 claimed to have busted an alleged Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) urban support network and arrested seven sympathizers, including three construction contractors, from separate places, reports The Pioneer. The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sundarraj P. said, while two persons were arrested last month, five others were held recently by the Kanker District Police. On March 24, Police arrested Tapas Palit, a construction contractor while he was allegedly transporting a huge consignment of shoes, fabrics and walkie-talkie sets, meant for Maoist rebels, from a place under Siksod Police Station limits of Kanker District. Following Palit’s arrest, another person, identified as Dayashankar Mishra, who was associated with him, was also arrested from Rajandgaon District.
The IGP further said that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Kanker Police recently arrested five more persons — Ajay Jain (45), Komal Prasad Verma, both Rajnandgaon based contractors, Rohit Nag (33) of Koyalibeda in Kanker, Sushil Sharma (50) of Uttar Pradesh and Suresh Sharnagat (28) of Madhya Pradesh—in this connection.
