The Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) in a report has said that the Taliban’s violence has increased by 50 per cent in the past three months compared to three months before this period, Tolo News reports on November 7. SIGAR’s report states that Taliban’s violence drastically increased in Afghanistan during August, September and November. Based on the report, the peace talks in Doha (Qatar) are in a stalemate and that continued violence by the Taliban has been posing serious blows to the Afghan peace process. “However, US officials have recently indicated that the Taliban is not fully meeting other commitments stipulated in or broadly part of the US-Taliban agreement—in particular those regarding counterterrorism guarantees and reduced Taliban violence—whose importance US officials have stressed repeatedly,” said the report.
