Three Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres were killed in an encounter with the Police in Venkatapuram (Nuguru) Mandal (administrative sub-division) in Mulugu District of Telangana close to Chhattisgarh border in the early hours of January 18 (today), reports Telangana Today. Sources said a constable of Greyhounds, the elite anti-Naxal [Left Wing Extremism, LWE] squad of Telangana State, sustained injuries in the incident. It is suspected that ‘divisional’ level leaders of the outlawed CPI-Maoist were killed in the exchange of fire between Police and Maoists as an INSAS [Indian Small Arms System] assault rifle had been reportedly recovered from the encounter site. Mulugu Superintendent of Police (SP), Sangram Singh Ganpat Rao Patil said he was to yet to receive complete information about the incident. “Our combing parties are still there in the forests on the Chhattisgarh-Telangana State border. The operation is still underway. We will give details later,” he added.
