Two militants belonging to different proscribed outfits have been arrested in separate incidents in Thoubal and Imphal East districts of Manipur on November 14, reports East Mojo. Acting on tip-offs, Assam Rifles (AR) personnel along with Manipur Police launched search operations and arrested a People’s Liberation Army (PLA) militant in Thoubal and a Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) militant in Imphal East District. The KCP militant was allegedly involved in planting an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Khurai area in Imphal East District. The identities of PLA and KCP militants are yet to be ascertained, however, both were handed over to Thoubal and Porompat Police Stations respectively for further investigation.
Meanwhile, the Security Forces (SFs) recovered powerful Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) fitted with a mobile phone handset and digital watch from three locations in Manipur, reports Northeast Now on November 15. Police found a powerful IED, wrapped in black polythene, near the house gate of one Aribam Sashikumar Sharma at Khongman in Imphal East District on November 15. Bomb and dog squads defused the IED fitted with a digital watch connected with two 9-volt battery along with one tiffin box. One special detonator, gelatin (500 gm) and splinters were found inside the tiffin container
Another powerful IED fixed with a mobile phone handset was recovered by the Police near the residence of Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA), L. Shusindro Singh at Khurai Chingangbam Leikai under Porompat Police Station in Imphal East District on November 14, in which one suspected militant was arrested.
The Police recovered a bag containing as many as 20 hand-made crude bombs from the roadside near Yangbi primary school under the Hiyanglam Police Station in the Kakching District on November 13. Assam Rifles (AR) personnel in a joint operation with Manipur Police recovered 20 M-79 grenades also known as ‘Lathode’ hidden in a jute bag near Wabagai Yangbi High School in Kakching District.
