A cadre of Tritiya Prastuti Committee (TPC), a splinter group of Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), carrying a cash award of INR 500,000 on his head, surrendered with a .315 rifle before Security Forces (SFs) in Latehar District of Jharkhand on January 23, reports The Telegraph. The surrendered cadre has been identified as Gopal Ganjhu,a resident of Vihir village under Herhanj Police Station limitsin the District. According to Police officials, Gopal Ganjhu has been acting as the ‘sub-zonal commander’ of the TPC. He was a Maoist from 2003 till 2013 and after that, he joined the TPC. His name surfaced in at least 29 cases in the District, including of murder, attempt to murder and disruption of Government work.Further, as per the report, Ganjhu got fed up with the life of extremists and decided to return to the mainstream after realizing that the Governmenthas a policy for those willing to surrender.
