Two militants of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM) were killed in a brief gun battle in Sheetipora village of Bijbehara in Anantnag District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in the evening of May 28, reports Daily Excelsior. Acting on a specific input, Security Forces (SFs) after receiving information about the presence of militants launched search operation in Sheetipora village. As the troops intensified searches towards suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the SFs, which was retaliated, leading to an encounter. Two local militants affiliated with HM were killed in the encounter. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, identified the as Ishfaq Ahmad Ganie, a resident of Chakwangund and Yawar Ayub Dar of Dogripora. He said that they were involved in several militancy related cases.
Meanwhile, a militant associate was arrested with arms and ammunition in Baramulla District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on May 27, reports Daily Excelsior. During the checking at the Authoora Bala bridge in Baramulla, Security Forces (SFs) intercepted a person whose movement raised suspicion, and when he tried to flee on noticing the naka party, he was tactfully arrested by the SFs. The militant associate was identified as Mohammad Saleem Khan, a resident of Shrakwara Kreeri. During a search, arms and ammunition including a pistol, a pistol magazine and five pistol rounds were recovered from Khan’s possession, Police said.
