Two Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres were killed in an exchange of fire with Security Forces (SFs) in a forested area of Mankapal village under Gadiras Police Station limits in Sukma District of Chhattisgarh on May 23, reports The Times of India. The slain Maoists have been identified as, Gundadhur, an LGS (Local Guerrilla Squad) commander of ‘Malangir area committee’ of Maoists who carried a cash reward of INR 500,000 on his head, and Aaytu who was a security guard of a senior Maoist cadre - Vinod (a divisional committee member). The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sundarraj P. said, acting on a specific input about the presence of the Maoists, a team of District Reserve Guard (DRG) was out on a counter-insurgency operation in the area. Soon the gun battle broke out and after a heavy exchange of fire, the Maoists fled into the forest. Later, the SFs recovered two bodies in the spot.
