A 45-year-old man, identified as Dhurva Dharmaiyya, was allegedly abducted from his house and killed by Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) on suspicion of being a ‘police informer’ in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh on June 19, reports The Print. Dharmaiyya, a resident of Aaipenta village under Ilmidi Police Station limits, was found dead by some locals on a hill on June 19, a senior Police official said. A pamphlet was recovered from the scene, in which Maoists have claimed that the victim was acting as a ‘police informer’, the Police official said, adding that Dharmaiyya’s son was also killed by Maoists in 2020.
Suspected Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres killed assistant constable Sanjay Kumar Vedja, who was on medical leave, at Patakutru village under Kutru Police Station area in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh on June 19, reports Hindustan Times. Inspector General of Police (IGP), Sundarraj P said that Vedja, posted at Bhadrakali Police Station, was attached to the Police reserve centre in Bijapur town. “Between 3am to 4am on Tuesday, four-five unidentified men attacked Vedja with sharp-edged weapons when he was asleep in a relative’s house. The family members found his body lying in the backyard of the house. Though no naxal [Left Wing extremists, LWEs] pamphlets were found near the spot, it appears to be the modus operandi of the Maoists’ small action team,” the IGP said.
On June 18, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested two persons, identified as B.Ch. Padma alias Modem Padma alias Lalita and Dubasi Devender, for the July 2019 attack on Security Forces (SFs) by the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) elements near Tiriya village in Jagdalpur Tehsil (revenue unit) in Bastar District of Chhattisgarh, reports The Hindu. Padma, who earlier operated as a ‘divisional committee member (DCM)’ of the CPI-Maoist and was currently acting as a coordinator between front organisations and the outfit. Devender, who was closely associated with the CPI-Maoist allegedly worked as a courier for them and secretly transported their messages (both paper-based and digital) and facilitated anti-national activities. Six CPI-Maoist operatives and one civilian were killed in the incident that took place in a forest near Tiriya in the Nagarnar area of Jagdalpur. The NIA took over the case on March 18, 2021, along with several other cases related to the allegation against the banned outfit that it carried out terrorist activities in Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.
