On October 22, the representatives of the United States (US), European Union (EU) and the United Nations (UN) urged the Afghan government to focus on preparations for formal intra-Afghan dialogue with the Taliban group, reports The Khama Press. “Called on President Ashraf Ghani, Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah and other prominent Afghan leaders to focus immediately on preparing the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan for formal Intra-Afghan Negotiations with the Taliban, including the naming of an inclusive, national negotiating team,” according to a Europe-US Communique on the Afghan peace process. The communique further stated “Urged all sides to observe a ceasefire for the duration of Intra-Afghan Negotiations to enable participants to reach agreement on a political roadmap for Afghanistan’s future.”
