The US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad, who is on a multi-nation visit on Afghan peace, has said that the United States (US) and North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) will make a shared decision on remaining in Afghanistan or leaving the country, reports Tolo News on June 6. Khalilzad said in a tweet on June 6 that he briefed the NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Afghan peace process and thanked them for the “great sacrifices” made and their ongoing commitment. “We went to Afghanistan together, will adjust our presence together, and if we leave, will leave together,” Khalilzad added.
Meanwhile, Secretary General of NATO Stoltenberg said that Afghanistan remains the highest operational priority of the alliance, reports Khaama Press on June 6. Stoltenberg made the remarks during a meeting with the U.S. Envoy for Afghan Peace Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad. “We remain committed to our goal of ensuring Afghanistan never again becomes a platform to export terrorism,” said the Secretary General. According to Stoltenberg “One essential condition for this success is that we are all on the same page and that we all push in the same direction to secure peace.”
