Senior Janata Samajbadi Party-Nepal (JSP-N) leader Mahantha Thakur filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court (SC) against the Election Commission (EC)’s decision to grant legitimacy to the Upendra Yadav-led faction of JSP-N on July 30, reports Republica. Earlier, the EC on July 26 granted legitimacy to the Upendra Yadav-led faction of JSP-N and ordered Thakur to register a new party at the commission. Yadav was able to garner the signatures of a majority of executive committee members of JSP-N during a head count at EC. Of the total 56 executive members of the party, 34 supported Yadav, while only 16 members stayed with Thakur. In his writ petition, Thakur has demanded that the SC stop the implementation of the EC’s decision.
