Pakistan and Afghanistantrack-II dialogue on March 2 issued a joint declaration, urging both countries to put a pause on blame game and jointly work for peace, reports Daily Times. The Pakistan-Afghanistan Track 1.5/II initiative, titled ‘Beyond Boundaries,’ held in Islamabad sought continuation of government-to-government engagement for expeditious finalisation of working coordination groups to promote bilateral and regional security and economic development The dialogue was jointly organised by the Center for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) and Safeworld, a UK-based independent international organization. The declaration urged national leaders to avoid negativity in their statements at international fora, suggesting them to instead focus on devising a joint strategy that could be conducive to regional peace and security.

Civilian Protection Advocacy Group (CPAG) said on March 3 that 113 civilians including 16 women and 17 children were killed and 89 others including 20 children were injured in Afghanistan in February 2018, reports Pajhwok Afghan News. CPAG registered incidents of violence such as blasts, suicide attacks, face to face clashes and other different type of violent incidents but there was asignificant decline in the number of casualties in February compared to January. Six hundred people were killed and injured in January and the Taliban were mostly made responsible for the civilian casualties, but in February the Government has been accused of civilian causalities because around 35 civilians were killed in the operation and Police arrested more than 28 people in the Band Taimour locality of Maiwand District in Kandahar Province.

In total 6465 planned operations, 3663 special operations by Afghan Commandos, 4631 Air-strikes, 209 night raids were conducted. He added that nine suicide attacks were prevented in the year 1396. Militants conducted 80 suicide attacks, 2301 planted mines, 1071 offensives and 176 ambush attacks. 13600 militants were killed by Police 5900 were injured and another 2100 were captured alive in 5500 joint and independent raids during the outgoing year, adds Pajhwok Afghan News. Police defused 4200 landmines, captured 1800 different types of weapons, 131 vehicles and 172 walkie-talkies and detained 27000 people. Police also confiscated 300 tonnes of drugs in more than 2700 operations and detained 3100 people in connection with the seizures. He added that over 1,100 polling stations across Afghanistan face high security threats. According to Murad, from the total 7,355 polling stations, 1,122 centers are under medium threat and another 1,120 face more serious security threats – all of which need to be secured by the security institutions. “These stations either must be changed or operations must be launched, they are included in the Nusrat Operation. Resolute Support Forces will only come to help in an emergency situation,” said Murad. However, two weeks ago the Independent Election Council (IEC) said that out of the total number of 7,300 polling stations, 1,707 centers were under threat in 32 Districts with the majority of the polling stations located in Helmand, Uruzgan, Kunduz, Badakhshan, Faryab, and Ghazni among other Provinces.
