The National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K) said that the outfit’s ‘makeshift’ camp at Saijang in the Kohima district was attacked on February 1 by a combined force of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM), "PREPAK, KYKL, KRA, UPDS and DHD (Anti-talk party)" numbering about 150 cadres, according to Morung Express. During the encounter, five militants of the NSCN-IM were shot dead while two NSCN-K militants was killed and one weapon was lost, said Anie Konyak, ‘Under Secretary’ of the NSCN-K.

Assam Tribune quoting intelligence source reports that the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI), the external intelligence agency of Bangladesh, was extending physical help to the top ULFA leaders including ‘chairman’ Arabinda Rajkhowa and ‘commander-in-chief’ Paresh Baruah. The report added that two top leaders of the ULFA were provided with passports to facilitate their travel, and the DGFI provided security to them. Thakur, said the two improvised explosive devices, each weighing six-kilograms and fitted with time device with the timer on, was found from a passenger bus travelling from Alipurduar in North Bengal to Srirampur at Telipara village of Kokrajhar district. He said that the bombs concealed in two boxes were to be planted near railway installations in Assam. Two persons travelling in the bus were arrested for interrogation.

Rabia Begum alias “Phoolan Devi” of Cachar, who was arrested by Assam Police for her involvement in the abduction of a child, identified as Shubham Sikdar, confessed during interrogation about the activities a new outfit, Young Muslim Party, set up in 2006. Police also arrested two of Rabia’s accomplices, Babul Haque Mazumdar and Sajjadur Rahaman Choudhury. They were suspected of being involved in at least three cases of abduction, including that of Shubham’s, who was released after 10 days of confinement. Rabia reportedly revealed the modus operandi of the new outfit led by Nasirudin, who is reported to be the chief of the outfit as well as Rabia’s paramour. According to police sources, the outfit was operating in the area from Chandranathpur under Katigorah block to Jaraitola in adjacent Borkhola. The outfit comprises about 20 cadres hailing from rural areas of the Cachar district.

The report stated that ULFA is “hedging its bets in order to protect its militant and business operations in Bangladesh, should either party win”.
