The militants surrendered with weapons including four AK series rifles, three 12-bore rifles, two 7.65 pistols, besides one each of M-16, 7.62 Self loading Rifle (SLR), point 22 rifle and two grenades. The ammunition included 104 rounds of 5.56 mm, 256 rounds of 7.65, 107 rounds of 7.62 mm, 44 rounds of point 22, 11 rounds of 12 bore, 12 rounds of 7.65 pistol, three rounds of High Explosives Dual Purpose (HEDP) 40 mm cartridges.

Additionally, at least two cases of arson were also reported from different parts of Shillong City, reports The Assam Tribune. A Molotov cocktail (popularly known as Petrol Bomb) was hurled at a residence at Jhalupara on June 2. A showroom was also attacked with petrol bombs last night at Mawblei area. Several two-wheelers were damaged in the attack. In view of the petrol bomb attacks the district administration has banned sale of petrol in jerry cans, bottles and other containers.

Three Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were injured when miscreants pelted stone at a CRPF camp located in the Mawlai Bridge area of Shillong in East Khasi Hills District on the night of June 3, reports The Shillong Times. CRPF IG Prakash D said there was heavy stone pelting by the miscreants and CRPF personnel restrained. The security personnel had to use tear gas shells to quell the mob and when CRPF outnumbered the miscreant, they ran away. Curfew was reemployed in Shillong on June 4.

The Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland- Isak Muivah (NSCN-IM) had issued a circular demanding ‘house tax’ from the Zeme Naga residents of Dima Hasao District, reports The Telegraph. The NSCN (I-M) circular, signed by Keyinzang Ndang, the ‘secretary’ of the Asalu Zeliangrong region, on May 24 warned all chairmen of wards/villages of the region to submit the "tax" to its office at Jalukie in Nagaland on or before June 25.The Government of the People's Republic of Nagalim office of Asalu Zeliangrong region circulated letters to the Zeme villages of Dima Hasao demanding house tax. A village headman of a Zeme village said, "The NSCN is not only demanding house tax but also INR 10,000 from each family that has availed of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana." The scheme is an initiative to provide affordable housing to the poor.Meanwhile, the Union Government is keen on early completion of the talks with the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) and two factions of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), reports The Sentinel.

A local taxi driver, Talbinus Dhar was assaulted by a non tribal shopkeeper, Dharmendra Kumar Shah when the latter told him not to smoke inside his shop at Jowai in West Jaintia Hills District, reports The Shillong Times. The driver was later shifted to Jowai Civil Hospital for treatment and Shah got arrested. Immediately, after the news of the assault spread, mob started gathering in front of the shop and also in some areas of Iawmusiang. The victim lodged a complaint at Jowai Police Station. However, a group of 50-60 people gathered in front of Jowai Police Station and shouted slogans against non-tribals.Meanwhile, Mobile internet service will remain suspended for some more time and curfew will continue in the Shillong city in East Khasi Hills at least till the government holds a review meeting on June 12, reports The Shillong Times. Additional Chief Secretary in charge Home (Police), MS Rao, said the Government wanted to resume internet service but “some incident took place in Jowai in West Jaintia Hills and the government is keeping a tab on the situation”. The ban will continue till 1.30 pm on Tuesday before the government takes a call on the matter, Rao added. Mobile internet and SMS services in Shillong were restricted since June 1 following the clashes in Punjabi lane area of Shillong. This action follows the incident in Karbi Anglong where a frenzied mob killed two youths suspecting them to be childlifters on June 8. The Special Investigating Team (SIT) led by Additional Director General of Police (Security) Harmit Singh has also found that 60 out of these 100 social networking platforms were fake ones and most of them have either been deactivated or deleted. NRC State Coordinator for Assam Prateek Hajela stated that 50 per cent NRC seva kendras in the three Barak Valley districts of Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi and a large number in Hojai and West Karbi Anglong districts in the Brahmaputra Valley had been affected by the floods. He visited Barak Valley on June 15 to take stock of the situation. The Supreme Court, which has been monitoring the NRC update, had set June 30 deadline for the Assam government to publish the complete draft. The convicted militants have been identified as Ningthoujam Shanti Meitei alias Chinglemba Mangang alias Takhelchangbam Hemanta Sharma, ‘general secretary’ Langpoklakpam Inaocha Singh alias Birjit alias Lalcha, ‘finance secretary’ ‘captain’ Laishram Jiten Singh alias Selkai and ‘major’ Elangbam Bobo alias Khanganba of the armed wing. The court is slated to pronounce the quantum of punishment for the militants on June 27. The case was registered by the NIA against them in December 2012. Meanwhile, Churachandpur Police, on June 27, successfully rescued a Tata Magic driver identified as Muhamad Bahadur Rahaman who was abducted for ransom on June 26 from Kaparang village along the Tedim Road. According to the Police, the abductors demanded INR 500000 in exchange for Rahaman. On receiving an input that money was due to be exchanged at New Bazar, the Police arrived and arrested one of the kidnappers identified as Jamson alias James Lhungdim (35). Based on his interrogation, the Police again arrested two others from Zion Veng, Tuibuong and eventually rescued the abducted driver from the same locality. Police have identified the other arrested duo as Suantinpao alias Obed Haokip (30) and Letngam Tuboi alias Ngamboi (30). Meanwhile, United Tribal Liberation Army (UTLA) has clarified that Jamshon alias James was suspended from the outfit after he was involved in the kidnapping of Chajang Village chief in Sadar Hills on Nov 10, 2012 and claimed that the outfit is ever since unaware of him and his activities.

Mizoram Assembly on June 27 passed the Sinlung Hills Council Bill after a prolonged deliberation, reports Northeast Today. It will have a general council and an executive council. The general council will consist of 14 members, of which 12 will be directly elected and two will be nominated by the government. The term of the general council will be five years. The council will be headed by a chief executive member (CEM), besides a chairman, deputy chairman, and four executive members nominated by the CEM. The bill envisages establishment of the council headquarters at Sakawrdai village in Aizawl District or any other place within the council area. There shall be a secretariat at the headquarters, headed by a secretary. The council will have executive power to formulate plans, schemes, budget, make bylaws and rules and impose, levy and collect taxes within its area. The council area will be divided into 12 constituencies and it will receive funds directly from the state government Formation of the Sinlung Hills Council is the result of the peace accord signed between the state government and the Hmar People’s Convention-Democratic (HPC-D) on April 2, to replace the existing Sinlung Hills Development Council, which came into existence in 1997 as a result of the peace accord signed between the Mizoram government and the erstwhile Hmar People’s Convention (HPC) in July 1994. Home minister R. Lalzirliana, who introduced the bill, said the Sinlung Hills Council would be accorded more autonomy than its predecessor.

The arrested militants have been identified as ‘sergeant’ Thangjam Langamba Meetei alias Chairen khomba, ‘private’ Yumnam Ashok Kumar Singh alias Boinao. According to Police Langamba joined the organisation on June 5, 2009 and received basic training for three months at Leseik, Myanmar, and currently based in Limatoo camp of PREPAK-PRO in Myanmar. Ashok joined the organisation in April 2018 and received basic training for 50 days at Limatoo, Myanmar, and currently based at the Limatoo camp of PREPAK-PRO in Myanmar.
