Sharma said in Duliajan on August 4 "This is the first time, since its inception in 1959, that the OIL has received a demand from an extremist organisation in the north-eastern region." Operations at the Khumsai oil well in Chanlang district of Arunachal Pradesh has been suspended since July 31 on the expiry of deadline of August 1 to pay up the demand.

10 people, including eight security force (SF) personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), were killed and two more injured on August 5, in an explosion caused by suspected terrorists of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) at Silbari in Bongaigaon district. According to police sources, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded when a truck carrying a group SF personnel passed through the area. The driver of the vehicle and a helper were also killed in the explosion. A massive search operation has been launched to nab the terrorists involved in the incident.

According to sources, an exchange of fire took place as the SF personnel, acting on a tip-off, were conducting search operations in Tinthengia Gaon, Konchgaon and the Namdang Reserve Forest. The terrorists, however, managed to escape, leaving behind a huge quantity of AK-47 ammunition, several extortion notes, receipts of payment made by people, medicines, clothes and documents.

According to the same sources, about 25 newly- recruited ADF cadres are being trained by the 28th battalion of the ULFA at its camp in Bhutan. ULFA’s self-styled deputy commander-in-chief Raju Baruah is reportedly supervising their training. The ULFA could possibly be motivated by the help it could receive from the ADF cadres in making contacts with China. The ADF cadres operate in the Lohit, Changleng and Dibang valley districts of Arunachal Pradesh, which share the border with China, and are familiar with the interior roads that link to China.
