Three powerful bombs, including time device, were recovered from two passenger buses in Kokrajhar and Sivasagar districts. The Commanding Officer of 11 Maratha regiment, R. Thakur, said the two improvised explosive devices, each weighing six-kilograms and fitted with time device with the timer on, was found from a passenger bus travelling from Alipurduar in North Bengal to Srirampur at Telipara village of Kokrajhar district. He said that the bombs concealed in two boxes were to be planted near railway installations in Assam. Two persons travelling in the bus were arrested for interrogation.

On February 3, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) is trying to disrupt the National Games starting in Guwahati on February 9. "Till today there are intelligence reports about the ULFA planning to disrupt the Games. Till today they (ULFA) have not withdrawn their call to boycott the Games," he told The Hindu in Guwahati. He, however, added, “There is no need for worry. We are not relaxing our vigil. I appeal to all, even the ULFA, to extend cooperation for holding the National Games successfully."

Police also arrested two of Rabia’s accomplices, Babul Haque Mazumdar and Sajjadur Rahaman Choudhury. They were suspected of being involved in at least three cases of abduction, including that of Shubham’s, who was released after 10 days of confinement. Rabia reportedly revealed the modus operandi of the new outfit led by Nasirudin, who is reported to be the chief of the outfit as well as Rabia’s paramour.
