Unidentified extremists fired at and killed a labourer and two others at Golagaon under Simla Police Station in Baksa District. The deceased, Nikleswar Barman, succumbed to his injuries in hospital while the injured duo, Lankeswar Barman and Pratap Singh, is undergoing treatment with injuries on their legs. Times of India adds that Ranjan Daimary faction of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB-RD) is behind the attack. NDFB-RD has however denied its involvement in the killing incidents of both Baksa and Sonitpur Districts. However, a source said the two incidents in Sonitpur and Baksa were carried out by a splinter group of NDFB, which has, so far, refused to join the peace process."NDFB-RD ‘chief of army’ IK Songbijit, who is based in Myanmar, heads this splinter group. He is under the complete influence of Paresh Baruah. It was Songbijit who withdrew from the unilateral ceasefire declared by Ranjan Daimary," the source said.

Jorhat Superintendent of Police (SP), Sanjukta Parasor told The Telegraph that the SIM of the satellite phone recovered from the encounter site revealed that the slain cadre and his associate Das were in close touch with ULFA’s top leadership in Myanmar. They operated in, around Majuli, and along the Brahmaputra. “We were able to decipher the code used by the militants operating along the Brahmaputra to contact the Myanmar camp,” the SP said. She said the police seized the satellite phone from an Ulfa linkman from the Majuli-Lakhimpur border in August.
