The recovery of the dead body was followed by the arrest of a militant, Dadu Borah alias Barun, from Kakojan Arandhara village under Teok police station. Barun during his interrogation confessed that he along with two of his accomplices came from Guwahati on January 1-morning on a hired vehicle to Kakojan Tea Estate, where they killed the driver and disposed off his dead body into the Kakojan river.

The Union Government is reported to have extended, on January 1, the four-year-old cease-fire with the Dima Halim Daogah (DHD) by another year, according to Indo-Asian News Service. "The suspension of operations agreement between the security forces and Dima Halim Daogah (DHD), a militant outfit, has been extended for a period of one year up to December 31, 2007," said a release issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. The Government and the DHD had entered into a truce in January 2003.

Two United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) militants, Kongkon Gogoi alias Kamal Gogoi and Surajit Gohain alias Yugantar Phukon, were killed in an encounter with security force personnel at Chirang Gaon under Bordubi police station in the Tinsukia district on January 2, reports Sentinel. They are kept in the hideouts at Umrangshu, Mamboing and Maher in the North Cachar Hills. At least 12 DHD cadres belonging to Nunisa faction were killed over the past eight months, mentioned the report. Painarang Dimes, the finance secretary of the Black Widow, said the desertions were "meticulously planned" by his outfit in December, 2006 and "brilliantly pulled off". Accusing Nunisa and other leaders of the pro-talks faction of not taking care of their cadres, he said, "The camps are short of food and warm clothes."

Inspector-General of Police (Special Branch) Khagen Sharma told that a time device planted on a motorbike parked on Siding Chamber Road of Tinsukia town went off killing one person and while another person succumbed to his injuries at a hospital.
