The Breakaway faction of Achik National Volunteer Council (ANVC-B) on November 18 asked the parent group of the outfit, presently under ceasefire, to join it [ANVC-B] if they are not happy with the ongoing truce process with the Government. “The Government is intentionally delaying the peace process and it is clear enough that the State is not serious in solving the ‘Garoland’ issue”, the ANVC-B said. According to the ANVC-B, the state Government is to be blamed for the delay in finding out a solution to the demand of ANVC and also for emergence of the GNLA and other groups. Commenting on an ANVC cadre’s reported nexus with the GNLA, the ANVC-B said, “the ANVC leaders must own responsibility and claim the arrested cadre instead of isolating him.”

Centre’s interlocutor in talks with the ANVC, P.C. Haldar on November 20, said it would be up to the State Government to take a call whether to accommodate the cadres, who had defected from the ANVC. “As there are divisions with the ANVC, it will now be up to the State Government to take a view whether the other boys should also be brought in,” Haldar. On dialogue with Anti-Talks faction of United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA-ATF), Haldar said that the talks are “moving in a positive direction”. He, however, refused to divulge details. Haldar also said peace processes in the Northeast have definitely “brought down violence” although he pointed out that there are certain points of concern. “There are still certain factions that have so far not come to the table or have broken away. I feel they will also see the reason as it is only through dialogues that one can end problems,” he said.
