The Union Home Minister Amit Shah met with delegates of Eastern Nagaland People's Organization (ENPO) in New Delhi on December 6 to discuss the demand for 'Frontier Nagaland', reports The Sentinel. The Eastern Nagaland People's Organization (ENPO) is stewarding the movement for the creation of ‘Frontier Nagaland’ as a separate state. At present, the region has six districts -- Tuensang, Mon, Shamatore, Longleng, Noklak and Kiphire settled by the Konyaks, Sangtams, Changs, Phoms, Khiamniungans, and Yimchungrus tribes. Shah highlighted a clear roadmap for an amicable, legislative and sustainable solution for Eastern Nagaland, which will include consultation with the people of Eastern Nagaland and the Nagaland state government. The Akato Chophy-led Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland/Government of the People's Republic of Nagaland/Nagalim (NSCN/GPRN) announced on December 15 in Hoito village, Niuland District of Nagaland that they have joined the Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) who are in talks with the Government of India for a solution to the Naga political issue, reports Morung Express. What role would Akato Chophy play in the NNPGs setup was not specified. The organisation further reiterated its declaration of unilateral ceasefire with the Government of India (GoI). Addressing the media on December 16 in Thilixu village in Chumukedima Circle of Dimapur District in Nagaland Iheshe Aye the Kilo Kilonser (Home Minister) of Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland Reformation (NSCN-R), stated that “there is only one NSCN (Reformation) refuting the statement of Akato Chophy who also claimed to represent NSCN (Reformation), reports The Nagaland Post. Narrating Aye maintained that since 2015 the Central Government had recognized the leadership and signed the ceasefire and has been part of Working Committee of NNPGs while the Akato’s group was yet to sign the ceasefire agreement with the Centre. The three-member committee of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) constituted by the Centre to study the demand of Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) for a separate ‘Frontier Nagaland’ state arrived in Tuensang District in Nagaland on December 16, reports Morung Express. A special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court of the District and Sessions Judge of Dimapur District in Nagaland issued notices to close aides of the top Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak Muivah (NSCN-IM) leaders to appear before it after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed a chargesheet against them on December 19, reports Arunachal Times. The accused named in the prosecution complaint (chargesheet) include Rayilung Nsarangbe alias ;colonel and treasurer of the NSCN-IM), and his wife Ruth Chawang. The accused have been charged with operating a well-organized extortion racket in Nagaland and Manipur resulting in the diversion of government funds. The ED stated that “in pursuance of their conspiracy for terrorist acts, the terrorist gang of NSCN (IM) had been criminally intimidating construction companies undertaking road construction projects in Manipur and collected huge sums as illegal tax (extortion).” Read less...
