The surrendered militants were identified as Dilip Debbarma (28), Bikram Debbarma (32) and Dhiren Debbarma (28). Tripurainfo reports that in a militant leader and second-in-command of Biswamohan faction of National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT-BM), Panther Debbarma alias Pandit surrendered before Police along with his wife and an associate at Kanchanpur under North Tripura District on March 13. They escaped from the NLFT’s hideout and a base camp in Jupui area of Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) in Bangladesh and entered into Indian territory on March 11, through Bhandarima border of North District. On March 13 morning, they surrendered before Sub Divisonal Police Officer (SDPO) of Kanchanpur, Ashish Debnath at Anandabazar area of the District without any arms. During interrogation Panther revealed that after joining in NLFT group a decade ago he had under gone arms training imparted by NLFT. He took part in kidnapping of civilian both from Tripura and Mizoram and other insurgency related crimes. Due to financial crisis in the camp and internal conflict among leadership over the command and control of extremist outfit, they became frustrated and decided to surrender and fled away from the NLFT’s base camp in Bangladesh. He also admitted that NLFT does not have many weapons now-a-days and the outfit has marginalised due to continuous surrender and desertion of members over past three years, adds The Shillong Times. Mistrust between top-rank militant leaders and lower cadres over misuse of fund has been widening with every passing day and bloody clashes in the hideouts are likely, NLFT-BM’s ‘second-in-command’ Panthar Debbarma, who surrendered before the Security Forces at Kanchanpur in North Tripura District recently, told the sleuths of both Central and State agencies. According to him, two rebel leaders namely Parimal Debbarma and Rajkant Debbarma have already come under the radar of the outfit for alleged misuse of funds collected through extortion as well as ransom. “In fact, Parimal and Rajkant have been confined in the NLFT headquarters at Tablakandi, some 60 km from the Indo-Bangla border for allegedly misusing outfit’s fund. The duo will certainly return to Tripura if they are allowed after sorting out the problem with the NLFT top brass”, Panthar claimed during the interrogation. Tablakandi, which falls under Chittagong’s Rangamati District, is the outfit’s headquarters though no top rebel leader stays there for safety. While Parimal was responsible for collecting money on behalf of the outlawed group from Kanchanpur sector, Rajkant was looking after arms and ammunition. Senior officials of the Special Branch (intelligence wing) of State Police, who interrogated the surrendered NLFT-BM’s 'second-in-command' Pandit alias Panther Debbarma (41), said this. “Panther said lower-ranked cadres in the NLFT [BM faction] are not authorised to marry but top leaders can. This has created resentment. As a result, NLFT cadres have started marrying local girls in the Chittagong Hill Tracks of Bangladesh and settling down there,” an official of the Special Branch said. Bru voters, whose names are registered in the electoral rolls of Mizoram, would be allowed to exercise their franchise through postal ballot papers from April 1 to 3, Tripura CEO Ashutosh Jindal said. Two Biswamohan faction of National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT-BM) militants surrendered before the Border Security Force (BSF) at bordering Acharjee Para village under Sidhai Police Station of West Tripura District on March 28, reports Tripurainfo. BSF sources said, two surrendered NLFT-BM militants identified as 'warrant officer' Amrit Debbarma alias Avatar and Jugal Debbarma alias Jham had joined the NLFT in 1998 and 2002 respectively and escaped from militants hideout in Bangladesh just couple of days ago.
