Security Forces (SFs) in Bangladesh have reportedly arrested two top militants, All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) ‘chief’ Ranjit Debbarma and National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) ‘chief’ Biswamohan Debbarma from Dhaka (Dhaka District) in December 2012, according to The Times of India. Police intelligence officials in Agartala (Tripura) on January 4 said Ranjit was arrested from a posh location in Dhaka on December 30 and Biswamohan on December 23 last from nearby areas. Both the militant leaders were arrested by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB). The RAB members, after receiving specific information, surrounded the flats in Dhaka and arrested the militant leaders, a source said. According to reports, they have been living in Dhaka for the past two decades. Their arrest comes mere months after Indian Border Security Force (BSF) submitted a list of militant hideouts to Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB). Read less...

According to a press release issued by Tripurapolice.nic.in, one militant belonging to National Liberation Front of Tripura-Biswamohan Faction (NLFT-BM) identified as Nitush Debbarma (25) alias Naikhol, surrendered before Security Forces (SFs) at Amar Border Outpost (BOP) under Vangmun Police Station in North Tripura District on January 14. The militant deposited One Carbine, 03 Magazines and 90 round ammunitions of Carbine. The Sentinel reports that a Tripura court, on January 24, sent All Tripura Tiger Force’s (ATTF) leader Ranjit Debbarma to 14 days of judicial custody, a day after he was arrested when pushed into the Indian territory by Bangladeshi authorities, Police said. Debbarma was facing Interpol’s red corner notice for a number of massacres and other crimes. The Police presented him at the West Tripura’s District and sessions court, which sent him to 14–days of judicial custody. He will be interrogated by Police and intelligence officials. “I was pushed back by the Bangladeshi security forces January 16 through the Dawki India–Bangladesh border in Meghalaya. Militants of National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) have stepped up extortion activities in at least four Assembly constituencies - Kanchanpur, Chhawmanu, Raima Valley and Karbook - across Gomati, Dhalai and North Tripura Districts, reports The Telegraph on January 30. Sources in the Special Branch (Intelligence Wing) of the State Police said over the past week, three large NLFT militant groups, comprising 15 militants each and led by Malindra Reang, Bipan Koloi and Debasish Uchoi have been moving in the interior villages of the four constituencies distributing “tax” notices and threatening people with dire consequences unless they pay up.
