On August 25, Syed Nazir Gilani, chairman of the London based Kashmiri separatist group, the International Kashmir Alliance, in a statement, accused Pakistan of killing and torturing hundreds of Kashmiri youth, who raised the banner of revolt against the authorities there. He was reported to have said: "Some of these missing people have either died due to torture in interrogation centres in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and some were finished off by drowning them in the Jhelum river." In the State, Ghulam Mohammed Abbas Azad, younger brother of the Union Parliamentary Affairs and Urban Development Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, escaped unhurt while one of his Personal Security Officers was wounded in a terrorist attack at Changa in the Gandoh area of Doda district. Sources in Doda said that two terrorists intercepted Abbas Azad and his son Muzaffar Abbas when they were heading towards Changa to open their shop from their house at Soti. Sources added that preliminary investigations revealed that Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM) ‘commander’ Tariq Mattoo, an erstwhile neighbour of Abbas Azad, had masterminded the attack. Mattoo is a top HM cadre who has been active in Gandoh and other parts of Doda for last several years. Terrorists also fired a rifle grenade targeting the residence of Ghulam Nabi, brother of the State Power Minister, Mohammed Sharief Niaz, at village Kahara in Gandoh. The grenade, however, missed the intended target and exploded without causing any harm.
