Three armed Pakistani militants were killed as the Army foiled a major infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Nowshera sector in Rajouri District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on June 1, reports Daily Excelsior. Official sources said, movement of the militants was first spotted on the intervening night of May 28 and 29 as one out of six militants trying to infiltrate from Kabootar Gala village in Kalal area in Nowshera sector stepped over an Anti-Personnel Mine (APM) leading to an explosion in the area. Since then the troops engaged the militants along LoC resulting into an exchange of fire. However, as the firing from the militants’ side stopped, the security personnel conducted searches and recovered three bodies of militants lying on the LoC. Large quantity of arms, ammunition, explosives and eatables were also lying near bodies of the militants. Recoveries included two AK rifles with 13 filled magazines, a US-made M-16A2 rifle with six filled magazines, a 9-MM Chinese pistol, one Under Barrel Grenade Launcher (UBGL) with six grenades, five hand grenades and two knives.

One militant was killed in the encounter with Security Forces (SFs) in Tral area in Pulwama District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on June 2, reports Daily Excelsior. Giving details, Police said that based on a specific intelligence a joint team of Police, army and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) cordoned off Pamposh colony in Saimoh of Tral under Awantipora Police in Pulwama, and as the cordon was being laid, there was an initial exchange of fire at the crack of dawn between the holed-up militants and the SFs and one of them was eliminated. Later on, after a brief exchange of fire, the second militant was also killed by the SFs taking the toll of killed militants to two. Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including two AK rifles, two pistols, 5 AK magazines and two hand grenades were recovered from them, Police said. The identity of the slain militants were being ascertained, however, reports suggest the slain militants were affiliated to the local Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).

Pakistani Rangers violated Cease Fire Agreement (CFA) by resorting to firing on forward posts and villages along the International Border (IB) in Hiranagar sector in Kathua District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on June 2, reports Daily Excelsior. The firing from across the border started in Karol Border outpost area around 10.50 am, drawing a strong retaliation by the Border Security Force (BSF), a Police officer said. A militant hideout was busted leading to the recovery of a cache of arms and ammunition at Tokranar near Bela Nalla in Chicha area in Kishtwar District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on June 3, reports Daily Excelsior. The hideout was unearthed by a joint search party of the Special Operations Group (SOG) of local Police and troops of the 17 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and the 52 battalion of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Chicha area, Police said. The search of the hideout led to the recovery of an AK 56 rifle with a magazine and 27 rounds, a pistol with a magazine and six rounds and one Under Barrel Grenade Launcher (UBGL) grenade.

Pakistan army continued its Cease Fire Agreement (CFA) violation by resorting to intense firing along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on June 3, reports Daily Excelsior. A defence spokesman said, “There was unprovoked firing from across the border in Kirni sector that started around 1.45 pm prompting retaliation from the Indian Army.” The exchange of fire between the two sides lasted for quite some time, however, there was no report of any casualty or injury on the Indian side.

In another incident, Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) recovered 24 kilograms of explosive material and arrested four persons in Anantnag District of J&K on June 4, reports Daily Excelsior.A police spokesman said, based on a credible input about possession of explosive materials, Anantnag Police raided the residential house of Adil Maqbool Wani son of Muhammad Maqbool Wani resident of Nanil. During the raid Police recovered 24 kilograms of explosive material which was packed in polythene bags and concealed in Nylon bags.It was learnt that three other persons are also involved, he said adding they were identified as Mohammad Shahid Padder resident of Hutmarah, Faizan Ahmad resident of Nanil and Adnan Ahmad resident of Chandpora Bijbehara.All the four accused persons have been arrested and shifted to Police Station Mattan, he said.

Four militants were killed at Bandpawa area in Chitragam Tehsil (revenue unit) in Shopian District encounter on June 19, while one was killed June 18, taking the number of militants killed in the encounter to five. The killed militants have been identified as Shakir Shafi of Nazneenpora Shopian who had joined militancy last month, Nadeem Zaman of Hefkhuri Shopian and he had also joined militancy last month, Jawhar Ahmad Malik of Achan in district Pulwama who was active since December 2017, Adil Hussain Pal of Maldar Shopian active since May 2018 and Mohsin Ahmad Wani of Ahind Shopian who was active since February this year. In the other encounter, two militants who had taken refuge in a mosque in Meej in Pampore area in Awantipora city in Pulwama District were killed on June 19, while one militant was killed June 18, taking the number of militants killed in the encounter to three. In the first incident, acting on a tip off about the presence of three militants in Zonimar in Srinagar District of J&K, Police launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) during which militants were asked to surrender but the hiding militants lobbed grenades and fired at the Security Forces (SFs) leading to an encounter resulting in the killing of three militants. The three slain militants have been identified as Shakoor Bhai alias Abu Dardah of Qamarwari, Shahid Bhai alias Hussain Sani of Samthan Bijbehara and Mohsin Aslam alias Yahya Sani of Anchar Soura Srinagar. The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir range, Vijay Kumar, said that militants were listed as the Islamic State of J&K militants in Police records but there were reports that they had joined Hizb-ul-Mujaheedin (HM) of late. Police recovered one AK-47 rifle and two pistols from the slain militants. In the second incident, one militant was killed at Lokhidipora area in Kulgam District of J&K, while two others managed to flee including Waleed Bhai alias Lamboo who is from Punjab Province of Pakistan. “Waleed Bhai is an IED expert who left behind M-4 carbine which is US made besides other ammunition,” IGP, Kumar said. He added that Wani was in regular touch with Haq since 2016 through WhatsApp and Telegram. “Wani’s activities were similar to that of Haq. Police and army launched a joint operation after getting inputs about the delivery of a consignment at Kralpora in Kupwara. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Ambarkar Shriram Dinkar, said, “We got information about a narco-terror smuggling module and a joint operation was executed by Indian Army’s 17 Bihar and Kupwara Police which led to arrest of two smugglers.” Approximately 13.5 kilograms of narcotics estimated to be worth INR 650 million in market and arms and ammunition including two pistols, four magazines, 55 pistol rounds, four hand grenades and 10 detonators were recovered from their possession. An Army official said, “On 29 June 2020, in the evening hours, Pakistan initiated an unprovoked ceasefire violation along the LoC in Tangdhar (in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district) by firing mortars and other weapons.” However, there were no reports of any casualties in the CFA violation.

Three unidentified militants were killed in an encounter with the Security Forces (SFs) at Khul Chohar in Shangus Tehsil (revenue unit) in Anantnag District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in India on June 29 (today), reports Daily Excelsior. The identity and group affiliation of the killed militants are yet to be ascertained. Acting on information about the presence of militants in the area a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) was launched by the SFs at Khul Chohar, which turned into an encounter after the militants fired upon a search party of the forces.

Army foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) at Parkian Gali sector in Kupwara District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) of India on June 30, reports Daily Excelsior. Army in its tweet said, “On night of 29/ 30 Jun 20, suspicious movement of 6-8 persons was observed in two groups in Parkian Gali Sector, Kupwara (J&K) along the LoC. Own troops challenged the infiltrators with fire. Infiltrators ran away taking help of darkness”. Two militants of Islamic State Jammu and Kashmir (ISJK) were killed in a gun battle in Waghama area in Bijbehara town in Anantnag District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) of India on June 30, reports Daily Excelsior. The encounter was the second encounter in last 24-hours in Anantnag District. The slain militants have been identified as Yawar Ahmad Bhat son of Ghulam Nabi Bhat of Hutigam and Ukash Muzaffar Sheikh son of Muzaffar Hussain Sheikh of Boughgam Kulgam. On June 29, three militants were also killed in Anantnag, which had been reported by South Asia Terrorism Portal (SATP).
