One person was killed and 16 sustained injuries when the Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM) attempted to blow up a part of the only flyover in the capital Srinagar with an IED blast. A parapet wall of the flyover was destroyed and half-a-dozen vehicles suffered damage under the impact of the falling rubble. Inspector General of Police (Kashmir Zone), S. M. Sahai, said that the blast occurred when no vehicle was plying on the apex point of the flyover. He said that militants seem to have planted the IED in a portion which was under construction. HM spokesman Khaleel-ur-Rehman informed the media that militants of his group had attempted to target a paramilitary vehicle. He said it was "unfortunate" that some civilians were also hurt in the blast. Officials and eyewitnesses, however, maintained that there was no paramilitary vehicle around when the explosion occurred. Officials added that a suspect, who was reportedly a student from the nearly Maisuma locality, had been detained for questioning.

The HM chief and chairman of the United Jihad Council (UJC), Syed Salahuddin, has said Pakistan could not stop supporting the Kashmiri militant groups, according to The Tribune. In an interview to Times Now, the UJC chairman also admitted that Pakistan has continuously been providing both military as well as political support to the Kashmiri militants. Maintaining that there was no let up in Pakistan’s support to the HM, the television channel quoted him as saying, "as of now Pakistan’s support is on. Now that things are changing in Pakistan, there is pressure on them to move away from the Kashmir issue. However, I can tell you that Pakistan cannot stop giving us substantial support on the Kashmir issue." Salahuddin was quoted saying that Pakistan has not only been giving the military but political, moral and diplomatic support to the militancy in Kashmir. Apprehending that the new regime might withdraw the support to the militant outfits, Salahuddin claimed, his outfit was self-reliant. "As you may have heard, we have moved away from the rest of the separatist groups. We have our own agenda and we are capable of achieving our agenda on our own, without any help," he was quoted saying.
