All Party Hurriyat Conference (APHC) leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani’s supporters raised Pakistani flags and allegedly chanted pro-Pakistani slogans during a rally held on May 1 in Kashmir's Tral region, reports Times of India. While addressing the rally Geelani said "It is being said that our pandit brothers, who left, have to be resettled. We have never opposed their settling in Kashmir. We have been saying for years that they should be brought back, but they should be allowed to live amongst us. The creation of separate neighbourhoods for them is not acceptable to us." During the rally, Geelani also demanded that duration of the pilgrimage Amarnath Yatra be restricted to one month. On April 17, the Government arrested another separatist leader Masarat Alam Bhat in connection with the raising of Pakistani flags during a rally.

Militants on May 1 threatened the staff of the cellular companies in Sopore area of Baramulla District after a communication device which they had reportedly installed on an Airtel tower in the militancy infested town went missing, reports Daily Excelsior. Reports said that two militants barged into Airtel show room at General Bus Stand and snatched cell phones of the staff. They were seeking information about missing device which they might have installed on the tower in Sopore area. However, they returned their cell phones and left threatening them. The same group of militants later went to Vodafone office at Water Tank and sought information about the missing communication equipment. They also threatened the employees there. Later, they went to Aircel office at Main Chowk with same inquiry and snatched a laptop and I-card of an employee. All the showrooms of the cellular companies are closed since May 1 after the incident as militants have directed them not to open them. Sources said that militants might have installed some communication device which would have boosted the internet facility as they don’t use cell phones for communication after they were being traced through them. They mostly rely on internet for communication. They are using improved communication technologies which are difficult for security agencies to detect. Their reliance on radio sets and cell phones is a bare minimal. A lot of the communication is happening on Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) and over Skype. For this they need internet facility.

Army on May 8 thwarted a major terror plot by Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) by killing their commander in half an hour long gun battle along the Line of Control (LoC) in Mendhar sector of Poonch District while a group of six to seven other Pakistani militants were reported to have retreated to Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK), reports Daily Excelsior. Sources said that the militant was carrying with him a Global Positioning System (GPS), which is provided only to the militant commanders to find the route while leading the group. In addition to GPS, Army recovered one AK-47 rifle, four magazines, 94 rounds, four Chinese grenades and large quantity of eatables mostly dry fruits from the possession of slain militant. Recovery of dry fruits from the slain militant was also an indication that the militants had planned to set off to some hideouts in Pir Panjal range after infiltration or target the Army and Police installations. This was first infiltration attempt on the LoC in twin border Districts of Rajouri and Poonch this summer with melting of snow and opening of passes.

Jammu and Kashmir Police and 42 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) on May 13 busted a joint module of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) outfits who were planning to attack soft targets like security guards and snatch weapons from the Security Forces (SFs), reports Daily Excelsior. Police said that they arrested two members of the module identified as Suhail Majeed Bhat, resident of Noorpora and Gulzar Ahmad Dar, resident of Nagbal Tral during the operation. Union Home Minister (UHM) Rajnath Singh on May 26 said India's response to cross-border firing along the International Border (IB) and Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu & Kashmir was so strong that it sent Pakistan scurrying to the United Nations (UN) seeking intervention, reports The Times of India. "When there were cross-border firings during the UPA regime, white flags were shown. But, we gave Pakistan such strong reply that they had to appeal to the UN to intervene", Singh states. About alleged display of Pakistan flags in Kashmir recently, Singh said, "We will not allow anyone to shout 'Pakistan zindabad' slogans in this country." New Indian Express adds that Rajnath Singh criticised the law and order situation in West Bengal, saying it needed to improve and described the reports of crude bombs being made in the state as a matter of "serious concern"."The NIA is an autonomous body and doing its job (probing Burdwan blast). But as far as the law and order situation is concerned in Bengal, we think it needs to improve. A lot of things need to be done regarding it," Singh said. "The way reports of crude bombs being made in Bengal are coming up, it is a matter of serious concern. We assure the state government of all kinds of assistance for the sake of development and improvement in the law and order situation," Singh added.
