According to CNN-IBN, the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) has set a new deadline of 10 am on September 2 (today) for release of abducted security personnel in Bihar. Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram had earlier said that it was for Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to take a call on the hostage situation. "This is for the state Chief Minister to take a call on. Nitish Kumar should do something. He is the man on the ground, he has all the facts. We will support him in whatever decision he takes. But he has not approached us," Chidambaram replied when asked about the hostage crisis in Bihar during a press conference in New Delhi on September 1 [Wednesday]. IG (Operation) KS Dwivedi told PTI from Lakhisarai District, from where the four Security men were abducted on August 29 that anti-Naxal [Left Wing Extremism] operation would be stepped up in the hilly terrains of the District and adjoining Jamui District. “We have received vital clues about the whereabouts of the kidnapped Policemen and we are sure of a successful operation," Dwivedi said.

Inspector General (range) RP Singh who headed the coordination meeting held on September 15 said that the borders of Maoist-affected Districts of Sonebhadra and Chandauli are linked with the borders of Bihar districts like Bhabhua, Rohtas and Kaimur, which are also known as the harbour of Maoists due to their typical topography. He said the proposed joint drives of the Police of both States would take place in two phases. In the first phase, Police of Sonebhadra, Bhabhua, Rohtas and Garhwa (Jharkhand) would launched a massive drive to comb the hills and jungles of the bordering areas, he said. A Police Official said Baro Koda disclosed that lack of sophisticated arms and ammunition like mortars, hand grenades and rocket launchers delayed the plan by three days that led to a surprise six-hour gunfight in Lakhisarai District August 29, in which seven Policemen were killed and 10 injured. Koda told Police that about 150 heavily armed Maoists and hundreds of men from the People's Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) assembled in forest area in Lakhisarai and were ready for the attack on Jamui jail.
