A joint team of Border Security Force (BSF) and District Force recovered the explosives during a search operation in the forests of Bande Police Station area, Pakhanjore Sub-Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) Jai Prakash Badhai said. While the SFs were cordoning-off Korenar village forests, they spotted an electric wire connection and subsequently found the IEDs, kept in different objects under the ground, Badhai said. “Two IEDs were kept in a pressure cooker and as many others were in form of pipe bombs. Of them, a pressure cooker bomb weighed 5 kg and others were of low intensity,” he said. According to a BSF official, the pipe bombs were connected to a wireless ‘walkie-talkie’ in a manner that if the wireless set receives a call, the bomb detonator catches the signal too and the IED explodes. The explosives were immediately destroyed by the bomb disposal squad of BSF and Counter Terrorism and Jungle Warfare (CTJW) college, Kanker.

The CPI-Maoist have given a call for 'Dandakaranya Bandh' on April 15, opposing the recent air-to-ground firing exercise carried out by the Indian Air Force (IAF) in south Bastar region, reports Business Standard on April 8. "The pamphlets in which the outlawed CPI (Maoist) has opposed the aerial firing practice by IAF commandos have been recovered from the restive places of Bijapur, Sukma and Kanker districts," a senior Police official involved in anti-Maoist operations said. The IAF's Garuda commandos had conducted a special air-to- ground firing exercise in Sukma District of the state on April 1. A similar aerial firing practice was done in Bijapur last year. The pamphlets, released in Naxal's [Left-Wing Extremism, LWE] Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee (DKSZC) official representative Vikalp's name, have appealed to make the bandh (general shut down) successful. DKSZC oversees Maoist activities in Bastar and some parts of Maharashtra and Telangana.

A Police jawan (trooper) was killed and another injured after Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres ambushed a team of Security Force (SF) personnel who were deployed on a helipad in the dense forests in Bijapur District on April 8, reports The Hindu. SFs were tasked with ensuring security to the helipad ahead of the landing of a helicopter meant to transport ration for them. After dropping the consignment, the chopper returned and SFs began marching back to its base, he said. “Meanwhile, a group of Maoists opened indiscriminate firing on them from behind leaving two constables --Baburam Markam belonging to the district force and Dinesh Ogre of Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) - injured. “While Markam succumbed to his injuries during the treatment, Ogre was airlifted to Raipur for treatment,” he said.

A woman Maoist cadre, who is the mother of a four-month-old girl, surrendered in Narayanpur District on April 10, saying she wanted a better life for her child, reports The Hindu. Sukaru Salaam (22), a native of Manpur area in Rajnandgaon District, surrendered before senior Police and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) officials at Narayanpur District headquarters, Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhishek Meena said. She was allegedly involved in several Maoist offences, including the attack on SFs in Aundhi area of Rajnandgaon during the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, he said, adding that she was carrying a reward of INR 100, 000 on her head. Sukaru was active in Aundhi Local Organisation Squad (LOS) in Rajnandgaon where she fell in love with the squad’s ‘deputy commander’, Bharat. When the senior cadres objected to their relationship, the couple fled and shifted to Koyalibeda in Kanker District, Meena said. They were well aware of the Maoist ‘diktat’ that cadres are not allowed to have children. After giving birth to a baby girl, Sukaru decided to quit the movement to give a better life to her child, he said.
