A labourer was killed and 11 others sustained injuries after Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres blew up a vehicle they were travelling in with an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) near Ghotiya village under Malewadhi Police Station limits in Dantewada District of Chhattisgarh on August 5 (today), reports Hindustan Times. Police said, those travelling in the vehicle were mostly labourers, and three of them were critically injured and were rushed to the hospital. One of them, identified as Dhan Singh, succumbed to his injuries later. “It was a command IED triggered by Maoists as we have found wires. The blast caused injuries to all the 12, including a woman. Police team rushed to the spot and rescued them,” Dantewada, Superintendent of Police (SP), Abhishek Pallava, said, adding that the Maoists may have mistaken the Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) to be a Police vehicle and targeted it.

The cadres of Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) carried out a blast in Udanti-Sitanadi Tiger reserve area in Gariyaband District of Chhattisgarh on August 8 night, and damaged some portions of Wildlife Buffalo Rescue cum Conservation centre, reports Free Press Journal. Rajesh Kumar Pandey, Chief Conservator of Forest (Wildlife) and Regional Director, Udanti Sitanadi Tiger Reserve, said, “Naxals carried out a minor blast in the Wild Buffalo Rescue Centre and damaged some portions of the enclosure. However, the main building of the rescue centre is safe, we are collecting details of the damage done by the Naxals.” Superintendent of Police (SP), Gariyaband, Parul Mathur, said, in the night around 20-40 unidentified men of banned CPI-Maoist outfit gathered near the Wild Buffalo Rescue centre and carried out some destruction in the enclosure. They set fire to small hut-like infrastructure; we are gathering the details about it. However, carrying out an attack on Wild Buffalo Rescue centre is new to the area. Police have started an investigation into it, the SP added. After setting fire, the Maoists also raised slogans and threatened the forest staff to wind up the rescue centre or suffer serious consequences. The Maoists also tied a banner at the site in the context.

Four cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), including a couple, surrendered in Bijapur and Dantewada Districts of Chhattisgarh on August 9, reports India Today. In the first incident, the Maoist couple, identified as Maoist ‘commander’ Raju Karam (24) and his wife Sunita (21), an ‘area committee member’ (ACM) of the CPI-Maoist, and carrying a cash prize of INR 800,000 each, laid down arms in Bijapur District. The Maoist couple were active in the Kalahandi-Kandhamal-Boudh-Nayagarh [KKBN] division of Odisha and Telangana state committees of the CPI-Maoist. Raju has been part of the movement since 2013 and was tasked with guarding ‘central committee’ (CC) member Narsimha Reddy alias Jampanna in Odisha. He later was part of the Telangana Area Committee of the Maoists and eventually became ‘commander’ of its protection group in the ‘central regional bureau’ (CRB). He was carrying a Self-Loading Rifle (SLR). Sunita, who has been active since 2014, surrendered with an INSAS rifle. In the second incident, two CPI-Maoist cadres surrendered in Dantewada District of Chhattisgarh, as part of the Police’s ''Lon Varratu'' campaign under which Maoists are being asked to surrender and join the mainstream. An official said Badegudra ‘jan-militia commander’ Lakhendra Kunjam (28), with a reward of INR 100,000 on his head, and militia member Bhima Markam (27) surrendered.

Superintendent of Police (SP), Abhishek Pallava said, the surrendered Maoists were ‘deputy in-charge’ of Dandakaranya Special Zonal Chetna Natya Mandali (CNM), Raju alias Roshan Tati (24), ‘area committee member’ of Barsoor Area Committee and Dandakaranya Adivasi Kisan Mazdoor Sangathan (DAKMS), a frontal wing of the Maoists, President, Jira Alami (42) and Molasnar DAKMS ‘chief’ Kumma Barse (35). Tati carried a reward of INR 800,000 while Alami had a INR 500,000 bounty. Barse was carrying a reward of INR 100,000 on his head. Tati was involved in a 2014 Maoist-Police gunfight at Pamed (Sukma) in which 14 Police personnel were killed, the 2017 Naxal [Left Wing Extremism, LWE] attack in Burkapal (Sukma) in which 25 personnel and a Maoist were killed and the 2016 Naxalite-Police battle at Orchha (Narayanpur) which left 5 Maoists dead. Alami and Barse were also involved in several Naxal incidents.

A Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre carrying a reward of INR 300,000 on his head surrendered before the Police in Bijapur District of Chhattisgarh on August 15, reports latestly.com. Bijapur, Superintendent of Police (SP), Kamlochan Kashyap, said, Mangal Kunjam alias Udham Singh (35) turned in before the Police citing disappointment with the "hollow" Maoist ideology and atrocities committed by senior cadres of the outlawed outfit. Mangal, involved in several Naxal [Left Wing Extremism, LWE] incidents, including the 2007 Gadchiroli attack (Maharashtra), in which 15 C-60 commandos were killed, and 2009 ambush that claimed the lives of 17 security personnel near Abujhmaad border, was ‘section commander’ of Maoist's Bhamragarh platoon number 7 and was active on Bijapur-Gadchiroli border.

The three arrestees were allegedly involved in the killing of a resident of Chhotegudra village in Dantewada District in 2019 suspecting him to be a ‘police informer’. Two cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) were gunned down in an exchange of fire with the Security Forces (SFs) at Gompad forested terrain in Sukma District of Chhattisgarh on August 24 morning (today), reports The New Indian Express. "A joint team of the CRPF, CoBRA battalion and District reserve guards was carrying out the area domination operation along the Gompad-Kanhaiguda area where the rebels opened fire. The attack was retaliated by the troopers who have recovered two bodies along with arms and ammunition. The search operation in the region has been further intensified," Sukma, Superintendent of Police (SP), Sunil Sharma said. None of the security personnel were injured in the incident. "The forces are yet to return to the base camp. The bodies will be identified once they are back. We suspect there could be a few rebels who suffered injuries in the encounter," the SP added.

The surrendered Maoists, identified as Budhra Sodi alias Sodi Bhaskar (32), woman Maoist, Manki Alami (24), Sunder Padami (30) and Boti Mandavi (30), were active in Katekalyan and Amdai area committees of the CPI-Maoist, Dantewada, Superintendent of Police (SP), Abhishek Pallava said. Reportedly, three People were killed in an exchange of fire between Security Forces (SFs) and CPI-Maoist cadres at a newly set up Police camp at Silger in Sukma District on May 17. The villagers had been protesting the setting up of the Police camp, allegedly under pressure from CPI-Maoist. SATP had reported the incident on May 17.
