Two Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres including a woman were killed in an exchange of fire with Security Forces (SFs) in the dense forest near Bhandarpal village in Kondagaon District of Chhattisgarh on June 1, reports Free Press Journal. Based on information about the presence of CPI-Maoist cadres belonging to the North Kanker-Mainpur Division Coordination Committee in the jungles of Rajpur, Bhandarpal and Timnar villages along the Kondagaon-Kanker District border, the team of the Chhattisgarh Police's District Reserve Guard (DRG) carried out an anti- Naxal [Left Wing Extremism (LWE)] operation leading to an encounter with CPI-Maoist cadres on June 1. After the encounter was over, the Police team searched the area and found two bodies of CPI-Maoist cadres, including a woman, clad in uniform. Police recovered one Self Loading Rifle (SLR), 303 rifle and three 12 bore rifles along with a huge cache of arms and ammunition and other materials from the site. Police have identified Two Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres including a woman, who were killed in an encounter with Security Forces (SFs) in the dense forest near Bhandarpal village in Kondagaon District of Chhattisgarh on June 1 as Aasu Korcha (20), resident of South Bastar and Reena Naretti (27), wife of Ramesh Hupendi, reports Nai Dunia on June 2. Both these slain CPI-Maoist cadres were carrying a reward of INR 5, 00,000 each on their heads. Both the slain CPI-Maoist cadres were involved in the arson in Kusanmari area under Dhanora Police Station in March and several other Naxal [Left Wing Extremism (LWE)] incidents in the area. The deceased women, Reena Naretti, who is from Tamoda village in Amabeda of Kanker District, have been involved in several CPI-Maoist incidents like spreading panic and working with Naxal outfits. More than half a dozen offences have been registered under sections of murder, attempt to murder, arson, including explosives, arms act, UAPA and IPC.

Chhattisgarh Government has withdrawn 594 criminal cases, including more than 100 CPI-Maoist related cases against tribals in Chhattisgarh, reports The Times of India on June 4. A court acquitted all the accused after reviewing the recommendation of a high-level committee. The high-level seven-member committee under the chairmanship of Justice A K Patnaik was constituted in December 2018 by Chhattisgarh State Government headed by Chief Minister (CM) Bhupesh Bagheal to review the criminal cases lodged against innocent tribals in the Maoist insurgency affected Districts. The committee had recommended the withdrawal of 627 cases and based on the recommendation, 594 cases have been withdrawn from the court, benefiting 726 persons. Similarly, 365 Maoist-related cases were identified by the Police department for speedy trial in the courts, in which 218 undertrials were acquitted in 124 cases. Of these, 36 people were acquitted in 24 cases in Dantewada District, 47 people in 44 cases in Bijapur District, nine people in seven cases in Narayanpur District and nine in three cases in Kondagaon District, six people were acquitted in one case in Kanker District, 109 people in 44 cases in Sukma District and two accused in one case in Rajnandgaon District.

Police recovered two fake AK-47s, CPI-Maoist uniforms, and a bag from a forest near Dugeli village under Bacheli Police Station limits in Dantewada District of Chhattisgarh, reports Ommcom News on June 4. Police team visited the village and had discussion with the residents, after receiving information about the fake CPI-Maoist activities in the area. Police team recovered two fake AK-47s, CPI-Maoist uniforms, and a bag hidden inside a hole. The AK-47s had been carved from wood and were being used by fake CPI-Maoist cadres to threaten the villagers. They used to enter the village during the night, kidnap wealthy people and collect ransom from their relatives. Unable to identify the weapons during the night, villagers also gave them money and other things. Police have launched a campaign to arrest them with the help of the villagers, said Dantewada Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhishek Pallav.

Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) have claimed that they killed a Police Constable identified as Manoj Netam who went missing on April 28 in Kanker District of Chhattisgarh, said Inspector General of Police (IGP), Bastar range, Sundarraj P, reports The New Indian Express on June 5. The Police are yet to confirm the death and probing further. The press statement issued in the name of CPI-Maoist said that Assistant Constable Manoj Netam had been killed. CPI-Maoist cadres could not return the body to the family. Netam, posted at Kodekurse Police station in Kanker District, left on April 28 after his duty without informing anyone where he was going. The willingness by the CM and the Governor were expressed when a delegation of social activists under the banner of Chhattisgarh Bachao Andolan met them separately on June 8. In the first incident, two CPI-Maoist cadres identified as Muchaki Motu alias Hurra, ‘janmilitia commander’ carrying a reward of INR 1, 00,000 on his head and Muchaki Pandu, a Dandakaranya Adivasi Kisan Mazdoor Sangthan (DAKMS) member were arrested by Police at Benapalli village under Aranpur Police Station limits in Dantewada District of Chhattisgarh. Two Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres were killed in separate encounters in Abujhmaad area in Orchha Tehsil (revenue unit) in Narayanpur District of Chhattisgarh on June 19, reports News 18. The District Reserve Guard (DRG) troopers were sent to the forest of Abujhmaad to carry out Operation Monsoon in the core area of Naxalites [Left Wing Extremists (LWEs)] before the monsoon rains start. During the Operation, after killing a Maoist in the encounter on Saturday (June 19) morning, the search operation was continued in the area by the soldiers, and in the afternoon again another encounter took place in the same area in which one more Maoist was killed. During the search operation, the dead body of two male Maoists cadre along with one .303 rifle, .315 bore rifles and other country-made weapons along with a huge amount of camping materials were recovered from the encounter spot. The surrendered cadres were allegedly involved in planting Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), damaging roads and bridges and putting up Maoist posters and banners in the interiors of Dantewada and neighbouring Sukma Districts since 2015. Dantewada, Superintendent of Police (SP), Abhishek Pallava said, they turned themselves in before Police, saying they were impressed by the Police's rehabilitation drive 'Lon Varratu' and disappointed with the “hollow” Maoist ideology. Out of the three Maoists, Aayta Kohrami, who was active as a ‘militia commander’, was carrying a reward of INR 100,000 on his head, while the two other cadres, identified as Uika Somdu (23) and Kartam Mahendra (22), were working as militia members. Mahendra was also wanted in connection with the murder of a person in Timmapuram village in 2018. SP, Pallava, said, “with this surrender, 375 Naxals [Left Wing Extremists, LWEs], including 99 carrying cash rewards on their heads, have so far quit violence in the district under the 'Lon Varratu' (term coined in local Gondi dialect for 'return to your home/village') campaign launched by police in June last year.” Under the initiative, the Dantewada Police have put posters and banners in the native villages of at least 1,600 Naxals, mostly carrying cash rewards, and appealed to them to return to the mainstream.

Security Forces (SFs) killed Joga, ‘deputy commander’ of People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA), the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) armed wing, Platoon No 26, in an encounter in Bastar District of Chhattisgarh on June 30, reports news18.com. Acting on a specific intelligence input about movement of Maoist cadres of Katekalyan and Kanger Ghati ‘area committees’ in Elangnar area under Darbha Police Station limits in Bastar District, a joint search operation was launched by Bastar District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troops. Later, an encounter took place between the SFs and the Maoists in which Joga was killed.
