According to media reports, approximately 60 armed Naxalites raided the railway station and held the staff there hostage at gun-point. Three left-wing extremists—Naxalites—of the People’s War Group (PWG) were arrested after an encounter near the Dublabeda village in East Singhbhum district of Jharkhand on July 30. Speaking to the media, district police chief Arun Oraon said the encounter occurred when a police patrol party came under fire from the Naxalites. The police retaliated immediately, firing 1000 rounds and eight mortar shells. There was no casualty reported on the police side but Oraon did not rule out casualty among the Naxalites. He claimed that the PWG, fast losing its base in the district, had brought in hardcore leaders from outside the State including West Bengal, for a major operation in the district. The Naxalite squad, numbering approximately 30, managed to escape into the State of Orissa.
