Three Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) camps were neutralized during the three-day operation that was launched in Saranda forest in West Singhbhum District, reports Times of India. 17 suspected Naxalites [Left Wing Extremists], including four women, were detained and over 200 kilograms of explosives seized in the operation that ended on June 29. The three camps were being led by senior leaders of Eastern Regional Bureau (ERB) of the CPI-Maoist deep in the forest located around 25 kilometers off Chota Nagra Police Station. "The camps were run under the guidance of ERB member Anmol Da alias Sammarji and other senior members," said Superintended of Police (SP) Arun Kumar Singh. "A total of 17 suspected Maoists, including four women, were detained by the Security Forces and are being interrogated," said Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Deputy Inspector General Bhanu Pratap Singh, adding, Anmol Da and other leaders of the Maoists managed to escape. The operation team engaged the Maoists in an encounter near Chadra village in the evening of June 28. The offensive was launched on June 26 midnight after arrested Maoist Nirmal Jharia on June 18 tipped the Security Forces off about Maoist training camps being run in the forest. "The camps were situated at an interval of four and half kilometres and one of the camps at Chanderdera village even had permanent concrete structure separate for men and women. It has jumping and target practice fields also," said SP Arun Kumar Singh. Near Baliba village, Police seized 200 kilograms of gelatin sticks hidden in a dump along with 50 bundles of codex wires, barbed wire and other materials used for improvised explosive devices. "At Baliba, Police also recovered 50 quintals of grains, potatoes, chocolates, biscuits, utensils for nearly 150 people, 50 jute bags, as many uniforms, two rifles and a huge number of ammunition," said CRPF Deputy Inspector General Bhanu Pratap Singh, adding, that the details of the exact amount of seizure could only be ascertained once the personnel return from the operation. Large bags containing Naxalite literature that included jungle warfare training booklets were also found in the camps.

Through posters put up in Latehar District, Maoists have invited displaced people to join their cadre, Police said on June 29. The posters invited people to join the CPI-Maoist’s People's Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA). The posters read: “People displaced due to demolition drive should join the CPI-Maoist organization and step up protest against the government. Stop displacing poor people in the name of demolition drive. Demolish houses of officials involved in the demolition drive. The government should provide compensation to kin of the people killed while protesting demolition drive.” Six people protesting the demolition drive were killed in Police firing in Ranchi and Dhanbad in April. Thousands of people have been rendered homeless due to the ongoing demolition drive in the State following a directive of the High Court that houses of those living illegally on Government land should be demolished. Meanwhile, an unnamed Police official told IANS, “The posters have been removed. Maoists, who are on the back foot due to Police offensive, are trying to woo people by cashing in on their sentiments.”
